Hi,

See attached instructions for service mode and default values. Although some of the settings seem to work straight away, I only got sound back when I turned the power off and on.

Cheers,

P.S The servive manual can be got from electromaniacs.com the file is "TOSHIBA 17VL46B LCD TV SM.pdf.zip" - too large to post here

BUT: If it were the high voltage only, the sound usually continues working normally. With no sound nor picture it is usually the main power supply. Common on big tube sets is the failure of the rectifier bridge in the main power supply. Do you know how to check it? If you have a vom you can see if there is any B+ voltage coming off the rectifiers. Or, you can pull them/module out and check it with a ohmmeter. That is where I would suggest you start.

Do you get sound in TV-Audio Out terminals if you hook any amp, receiver?
If yes, then sound amp is bad or not getting voltage supply from power supply.
If there is no sound at TV Audio Out terminals then it can be problem of sound processor.
Let me know, do you get ever sound on cable or dvd input?

Hi there
Make sure the settings are correct by setting them to the TV not an external device like a home cinema system

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya

Toshiba model #37HLX95 won't power-up

More than likely its is a faulty component on the power supply, like a compositor. It is cheaper to buy a new tv then to fix many of these issues. Repair usually involves a lot of diagnosis and if it is a replacable component you will then have to solder out and back in the new part.

Yes, in these sets almost all the audio circuit is on the main signal board which with this model is not likely to be cheap if it can be found.

You have tried to unplug set, a box, or a audio/video receiver and also nothing on any input--leaves unless something odd wrong--audio circuit problem.

Hi

There are some factors of this kind of problem.

First you could have a failure in the power supply. Next could be the main board. Lastly you could have a problem with the panel itself, this would mean a new set for sure because the part cost is more than a new set.

However try troubleshooting the problem before spending money on repairing or replacing the television. Possibly you can restore the picture and sound to your television ...

Verify the TV is powered on by pressing the power button on the TV's remote or the front panel of the set. This may seem like an obvious step, but many TVs are equipped with a standby light that will illuminate if the TV is turned off, making it appear that the TV is on when it is not.Cycle through the TV's video inputs to verify that your TV is set to the right one. For instance, if you are attempting to use a digital cable converter box that is plugged into the Video 1 input and the TV is set to a Video 2 input that has nothing plugged into it, the TV will not display any picture or sound and may even say "No signal" on the screen. To cycle through the inputs, use the input selection button, typically labeled "input," "source," "TV/video" or the like.

Re-seat the video and audio input connections to verify a loose cable is not causing the TV's loss of signal. If you have a coaxial cable connected from your wall cable jack directly into the TV, it may have come loose thereby eliminating all picture and sound on the TV. Locate the connection cable or cables of whatever device you are attempting to watch and unplug them from where they plug into the TV. Plug them back in and check for a signal. If there is still no picture or sound at this point, the best option is to contact technical support for further assistance.

The main board has become faulty. It is a logic issue that is causing the TV to fail. The only way to fix it is by replacing the main board.

I have the same problem. It happened once before about 4 years ago just after I bought it. I put a DVD in without the power on. I was able to take it out and it worked fine. This time my daughter put the DVD in, I took it out but still no picture or sound.

Have you had any luck?
