I bought it from a friend who has had it for over a year but doesnt play it anymore. He is in the military so no time. How long is the warranty usually for? If the warranty is over, do you know what type of shop in the US?

I would say if it was spinning when it dropped, you are probably out of luck. There are services available for platter recovery, but they are quite expensive. Practice the 3 backup policy.

Our wii wont read the disks we anymore

Hi there freidgat

What to do when your Wii Has problems with reading disks and you have tried cleaning the disk.

This does not mean your Disk Drive needs replacing more often than not it just needs the laser to be readjusted.

Option 1

You can send this off to Nintendo if your still in warranty because it is included in there free fixes so they will do the collecting for you, fix it and return the Wii to you, all for free, but it will take 4-6 weeks.

Option 2

If you are out of warranty its the same process as above but its $150 in cost

Option 3

now a new Disk drive would cost around $75 for a compatible one and you may need some one to fit it at a cost as well.

Option 4

What I recommend is a Wii Repair Guide that will show you the simple steps yourself, you will be up and running again in less than an hour and the cost is far less than option 2 & 3

Good Luck

My nephew dropped the wii now it says cannot read disc every time you put a game in, worked fine before this

when he dropped it this will most likely crack the sensor once its cracked it will not play any disc. if your warranty is still in affect call nintendo customer service they will help you on sending it off to them so they can fix it you can get there contact info from if you dont have a warranty i would recommend just buying a new system and find someone who will buy your wii to sell for spare parts.

Dropped console and now will not read disk. It still turns on but will not read disk. My kid is devastaded!

The disk is scratched. If the whole Wii won't read anything, then the Wii CD reader is broken.

Wont read disc

sure, but wii dvd drive is very hard to adjust laser and calibration´s very sensitive, you must search for youtube to see calibrating videos for Wii....take a look in the motherboard to see if there is any chip or components loose inside the wii...Good Luck!!!

My Wii Reads Disk, but WONT EJECT IT

If it is still under warranty use the link provided

Nintendo Support

Fill out their form and be very descriptive when asked and they will repair it.

Alternatively you may choose to open the case and examine the damage - This is unadvisable as you warranty will be void and you could further damage the console

Disc wont read

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. It also gives information on fixing many Wii Related Problems, so its a kind of Wii Problems Reference Fix Guide
