In computer terms we call that the blue screen of death. Your hard drive or your operating system has failed. I would first try to reinstall the OS and if you are having problems then you need to reoplace the hard drive. The beeping noise is probably because the BIOS is not detecting something? Could be the hard drive. That is why your OS is not working. Hope this helps, Darren

With an error of that nature I would go with a complete restore to factory settings and software. That should resolve the error in that it will essentially format the drive out right and re-install everything to the factory settings. If there are items you need to keep from the old software it may still be possible to recover those using a boot disk to DOS or possibly something like an OS that runs from a CD like Knoppix which would give you complete access to the hard drive and allow you to copy those files for later use. Good Luck you have many hours of work to get this recovery done. The problem itself relates back to Anti-Virus software in most cases because of the way those deal with the recovery files Windows uses. It may be possible to repair the problem by doing a complete scan using the setting to scan and attempt to recover bad sectors selection then a defrag. This could take as little as an hour to several hours depending on the size of the hard drive and the number of files being scanned and fragmentation in the drive itself.

Blue screen problem

If you have the operating system CD then boot from that and if it is a Windows retail cd then you will have several options. If it is a recovery cd then the only option might require a complete format and reinstall. Pressing F12 will give you a one time list of boot options. Some machines like Compaq use F10 for recovery. Look for the boot options on the lower part of the screen at boot. If only a blue screen appears initially then try pressing F2, F1 or Delete right after the first beep. If there is no beep then make sure all drives are empty, all peripherals disconnected. Blue screen means that you have a display. Beep codes are listed in the manual or on the BIOS manufacture's website. Faulty RAM can cause this problem as well. Try reseating the RAM. More details will get you more help if these tips do not resolve the issue. Best wishes to you.
