Cannot recieve a fax

Press the Setup button on the front panel of your All in One

Go to Print report

Check for Fax report it may be off turn it On

try reinstalling the drivers. make sure your telephone line is plugged in correctly and is functional

Followup the steps to setup the printer to send/receive fax.

Connect the phone line ( wire ) to Line 1 Ext at the back of printer port.
The connection is from the Phone socket to printer.


Press the Auto-Answer button on the front panel of the printer to enable automatic fax receiving.
If your no. of rings on voice mail or Answering machine is 4, you need to set 6 Rings to Answer on printer to receive the fax or else the printer will start accepting all the voice mail calls.

Press the Setup button on printer front panel
Scroll till you find Basic Fax settings Or Advanced Fax settings - Press OK
Choose the option Rings to Answer - Press OK
Set the No. of rings. - Press OK

Your printer is ready to send/receive Fax.

I am not certain, but if you have it connected to a DSL or other broadband telco line, it won't work for faxes. You need a simple regular landline for faxes in and out.

Check the manuals to be sure.

You will have to set the Multi-ring pattern in the Printer Fax Setup to distinguish between the phone ring and fax ring

Press Setup button
Scroll to Advanced fax setup ( Press OK )
Choose Distinctive Ring Pattern ( DRP )
Set the multi-ring you have been assigned for Fax
Press OK -
Try dialing the no., the Fax should ring
Try sending Fax or Recieving, it should work.

Also, Turn off the ECM
under SETUP - FAX Settings - ECM ( Error correction mode ) - Turn it OFF

Go to menu option and choose the option fax and set the parameter like auto receive or manual set the ring auto answer mode after certain ring. If it is in auto receiving mode it will receive the fax after the ring which you set. Make sure the phone wire which you insert in fax machine getting proper dial tone and getting out going calling facility.

If you are using DSL I suggest you to use filter. that will resolve your issue

make sure to go to hp.com and install all the correct drivers for that system

Check the phone line with a regular phone plugged into the wall socket.

I will assume this is an inbound fax.

Your fax machine has a setting for answering on a number of rings, normally between 1 - 4. Check it's settings and lower the number to meet your needs, so the fax picks-up before the answering machine.
