Question about Mitsubishi VS-5043 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

The red disappears intermittently, the set emits a burning odor.

My guess is the Red CRT is leaking coolant and need to be replaced.

I had that problem 2 years ago but I don't remember the odor. The solder connections came loose on the red tube's small pc board. The wifes make-up mirror came in handy to resolder the loose wires.

My tv has a red tint to it not sure what to do?

Projection tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around video.

Pic of a set that needs the fluid changed. Notice how dull the colors are and how white the screen looks. The screen may also look red, orange, dull, etc.

Changed crt coolant, better picture. red squiggily line starting at top center of screen, runs about a third of the way down. thought i saw scratch or small crack in green crt "c" lens. would this cau

Sounds like you may have just left one of the wires loose from the red tube. Not likely an issue from the gren tube but you can always cover the top of the lens and let just green shine up. That may help narrow it down also.

I have to much red and to muchblue it turns in togreen

CRT coolant needs replacement. The red has become dominate due to the green coolant needing replacement. The blue will soon follow and red will be the only color that wont get affected. You can get the phillips CRT coolant kit from www.tvrepairworld.com the kit contains the coolant and the CD with instructions.

There is too much red, even after I've restored the dealer settings. The color is very red.

Sounds like the CRT coolant needs replacement in the Blue and green CRts which will make the red CRT dominate.

Getting red, blue and green halos around images

I had a similar problem with red halos around images on my Hitachi rear projection TV. The problem was that the red convergence chip burned out. I replaced that and that fixed the problem. I found several forum posts on similar symptoms and fixes for Sony rear projection TVs by searching for "Sony rear projection convergence problem." Likely you've already tried the auto-convergence function for your set, if it has that.

PIONEER ELITE PRO730HD 64in Red lens lower assmbly losing fluid

You'll need to replace the red CRT . The coolant chamber of the original tube has been compromised. Hopefully, none of the fluid( ethylene glycal) has leaked onto the main chassis of the TV.

Blue CRT issues?

Yes the puddle is related to the Blue CRT coolant leaking. You are most likely going to need a new Blue CRT drive circuit board and quite possibly a new Blue CRT if the CRT got too hot from not haveing a sufficent supply of coolant. You can get replacement CRT drives and CRts at the following link.

Oil low in red lamp

The substance is a clear antifreeze. The purpose is to keep the phosphors on the CRT cool so it wont burn. If the liquid was low, it means there is a seal or bladder leak somewhere. The tube needs to be removed and the leak can be patched with silicone rubber or the blader needs replacing.( check for cracks). Refill with coolant and re install. Use rubber gloves because the liquid coolant is hazardous to your health.
