Question about Gateway M-1625 Notebook

1 Answer

Power button does not work, I have to use the arrow button to the right of the power button to turn on my M-1625 Gateway. What is wrong?

It is a Reconditioned Gateway M-1625 laptop computer that was my son's and he had it over in Iraq for two years in the dust and sand. When he brought it back home to me it was covered in layers of dust, on the outside. So I knew the inside had to be full! I took it completely apart and blew out all the dust and sand and put it all back together. The power button still would not work. I don't know if it still has dust under the button or what but it will not turn on by that button but it will by the multimedia arrow button on the right of the power button. Can the power button be replaced without replacing the whole MB?

Thomas F. Schneider, I think (not completely sure) the power button is soldered to the MB. The outside button is just a piece of plastic with a tab that when pushed the tab pushes the internal button on the MB. The power button, on the MB, is a small 3mm x 3mm white square with no wires coming in or out of it and that is why I think it is soldered to the MB.

If the Power button IS soldered on the MB and IS bad is there anyplace I can purchase one? I have never found a computer manufacturer that sold individual pieces like that, just whole MB's.

If it's just jammed/stuck, try a LITTLE silicon spray. Compressed air?

When I had it apart I used an air compressor and blew out the entire board and case, I think the power button, on the MB, is either bad or not getting a good connection. I already asked if there was any place I could purchase a new one and I am waiting for an answer.

SOURCE: gateway 450sx no power

Needs physical repair. No help without some new parts. The "little piece" latch is necessary. The bay thinks there is a device there and there isn't. The POST (Power On Self Test) program won't allow it to startup if a device is missing.

SOURCE: My Gateway 7330 works now, but the power button doesn't

If you go to where the start button connects to the computer mother board and disconnect it. YOu can put a screwdriver across the two spikes coming from the board and it should start. That wil confirm that it is not a board problem.Next get a small battery test light ,or ohm meter and  hook to the two wires from the switch. Press the switch. If it lights that everything is ok. If not you are down to the wires or the switch. Disconnect the wires for the bvack of the switch and test the switch with the light again w/o the wires. Works now=bad wires or connection. Does not work=bad switch.

You don't need to take apart all the back cover. Only the small rectangule part where the back support is located. The hard drive is located under the small cover.

You can turn on your laptop first and then put the disk in the driver. It seems your laptop is set to start from the disk, and if you do as I said above it should not effect it

How to open sleep loptop gateway m-1625

Hit "Enter" or "Spacebar" to deactivate the Sleep mode. It depends on the Operating system not on the System Model or configuration. The hint i've given above is for All Windows. Sometimes pressing the power button let's the System wakes up from sleep.

If you've made changes from the Settings, this will not work, so I would suggest you to get some help from the microsoft (click here to read the instructions from microsoft)
Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

All you need to do is to call GATEWAY technical support. If your laptop still under warranty then they will replace either the motherboard or the power adapter. But regarding on this issue that you have, my first suspect is that your power adapter is bad and secondly the motherboard.

Yes, if the CPU/motherboard will not POST (Power On Self Test), then changing the CPU is the only thing that you have not tried.

Gateway t 1625 laptop not booting

If u can, try to reformat it, reason i say this simple solution is because u already had the laptop looked at professionally, and due to you're laptop being stuck at the windows screen, i see this happen on HDD swaps a lot. The HDD needs to be repair-formatted or fully reformatted to talk to the new mobo when switched out, try this if all else fails, i personally think giving this simple solution may fix the boot up issue, but do make sure ur friend who looked at your laptop hadn't reset ur C MOS and may of not reconfigured it, this may also be the main cause of boot up troubles so make sure everything looks fine in ur BIOS. Gabriel will have a more proper solution than this but i believe by doing this it may help u bypass ur loading issue

Battery light

There are several solutions to your problem, the battary may be bad, the charger may not be charging the battery or the power supply in the laptop could be malfunctioning.
You can check the output of your battery charger with a volt meter, as for the battery and the power supply, you would need to take it to a repair depot or call one of your local computer repair facilities.

Gateway T-1625 Laptop won't boot up at all

It sounds like a motherboard issue. The fan spinning and the LED lights are running off of battery power. This indicates that power is getting to the system. You should look into replacing the motherboard at this point. Before you replace the motherboard feel your system to see if there are any really hot spots that would indicate overheating. If not proceed with the replacement. If so, let me know where the hot spot is.
