Question about Gateway M-1625 Notebook
It is a Reconditioned Gateway M-1625 laptop computer that was my son's and he had it over in Iraq for two years in the dust and sand. When he brought it back home to me it was covered in layers of dust, on the outside. So I knew the inside had to be full! I took it completely apart and blew out all the dust and sand and put it all back together. The power button still would not work. I don't know if it still has dust under the button or what but it will not turn on by that button but it will by the multimedia arrow button on the right of the power button. Can the power button be replaced without replacing the whole MB?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: gateway 450sx no power
Needs physical repair. No help without some new parts. The "little piece" latch is necessary. The bay thinks there is a device there and there isn't. The POST (Power On Self Test) program won't allow it to startup if a device is missing.

If you go to where the start button connects to the computer mother board and disconnect it. YOu can put a screwdriver across the two spikes coming from the board and it should start. That wil confirm that it is not a board problem.Next get a small battery test light ,or ohm meter and hook to the two wires from the switch. Press the switch. If it lights that everything is ok. If not you are down to the wires or the switch. Disconnect the wires for the bvack of the switch and test the switch with the light again w/o the wires. Works now=bad wires or connection. Does not work=bad switch.

The issue could be even due to the battery of your notebook.
I recommend you to try the steps in the below link once:

You don't need to take apart all the back cover. Only the small rectangule part where the back support is located. The hard drive is located under the small cover.
