I just bought a Seagate 2 TB desktop drive for Mac and PC, it works on my PC but nothing happens on the MacBook

If the Seagate hard drive has been formatted on a PC in NTFS then the MAC cannot read and write to this hard drive.
To exchange data between the PC and MAC then the Seagate hard drive needs to be formatted on a PC in FAT32 not NTFS.

SOURCE: How can this process be reversed?

Do you have the little jumper switchs set to master or auto-detect? Once that is done, you might try to find an older DOS 6.2 setup disk 1, and use FDisk, to low level format the drive to FAT32 format, then put Windows back on it.

SOURCE: Seagate 500GB FREEAGENT DESKTOP 7200RPM

Try this:

1. Turn off the power supply to the hard drive.
2. Turn off your PC/laptop.
3. Connect the hard drive to the PC/laptop.
4. Turn on both devices.

It worked with mine.

You could also try installing Seagate Manager which can check for errors on the drive.

How do I factory reset my mac book os x please help

Step 1

To start, make sure that all of your files are backed up elsewhere. When you revert your MacBook Pro back to factory settings, you will also be wiping out all of the data on your hard drive. If there is anything you want to keep, take the time to move it all onto an external hard drive.

Step 2

Once your files are backed up, shut down your MacBook Pro. Plug it into the AC adapter, and then boot it back up. Finally, press and hold “Command-R” (the “Command” and “R” keys at the same time) to start the restore process. Hold these keys until the Apple logo appears on the screen, and then release them. You will be taken to an alternative boot screen with a “Mac OS X Utilities” menu.

Step 3

In order to complete a system restore, you will need to connect your computer to the Internet. Select “Wi-Fi” from the Utilities menu and find the router you will be using. Enter your Wi-Fi username and password to connect.

Step 4

Depending on which version of OS X you are using, your Utilities menu will be slightly different. Look for either “Internet Recovery” or “OS X Recovery,” and select whichever one you find. This should present you with a “Reinstall OS X” option. Click on it, and then wait as your MacBook Pro connects to the Internet and gathers information on your laptop from Apple servers.

You may be prompted to provide your Apple account information, including username and password. If so, provide it. In any case, this process will eventually reach the point where your MacBook downloads the latest version of OS X, as well as the standard programs that Apple includes pre-installed on every laptop. Your hard drive will then be automatically formatted, and the computer will restore itself to factory settings.

Step 5

Once the reinstallation process is completed, you can either restart your computer, provide your Apple ID information, and start copying your files back over to the computer from your external hard drive, or you can turn the computer off and go about selling it to a new owner.

Hi and welcome to Fixya1

To reset the machine back to the factory settings, just follow these steps:
    • 1 Shutdown your machine and make sure that the charger is plugged in before doing the reset. Turn on the machine.
    • 2 Press the blue Access IBM button on your ThinkPad keyboard at the screen prompt. The screen prompt reads "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button." This interrupts the Windows reboot process.
    • 3 Double click "Recover to Factory Contents" at the Access IBM predesktop menu.
    • 4 Follow the recovery wizard prompts to initiate the factory restoration process. Your ThinkPad will automatically reboot upon completion.

Mac book air cannot start

When troubleshooting a Macbook Air, there is a checklist from Apple Support you need to try.
You are welcome to do so after first trying these steps first.

• Check the Magsafe power adapter, to make sure it is free of debris and is seated properly.

• If with decent charge, try to start the Macbook Air, with only the battery.

If you get power from either one of these issue resolved- otherwise follow the steps provide more in detail from Apple listed in the link below.
