The internal wireless card is going out. I do not see a slot where I can put an external card. My computer repair person says that I should be able to use an external connection because it would cost too much to repair.
Please let me know if this one does not have a spot for an external card or let me know if, perhaps, I can use a wireless card that connects through a USB port.

the easiest way is to get a wireless pcmcia card that slides into one of the expansion slots. if you want an internal card you need to check what kind of slot you have and make sure you have antenna wires running to where it needs to be installed. more than likely it's a pci-e slot and you can buy one of those from ebay
If you want to replace the internal wriless card its should be accessable undeer the laptop its slides out of its socket. or you can buy a usb wirless adaptor and disable that one in your HP and you be all good to go and it will not cost you as much as if you where to replace the internal one.
I tend to not use HP or anybodies Wireless Assistants. But you ought to be able to see in Device Manager and Networks wether Windows thinks that the wireless card is working or not. Windows uses Wireless Zero Configuration Service to control Wireless Cards. You might have to tell the HP gizmo to let windows manage the wireless.
You might also have to turn the computer over and find where the wireless card is - and check that it is still seated properly in it's slot. That's a pretty advanced thing - and should only be done with the Service Manual or Owners Manual at hand to tell you how.
Mainly the hardware should be showing up in the Device Manager as "working properly" - if not maybe somehow the device driver software got damaged or removed?
- One of course is the External Wireless card you currently have
- Second, is to replace the internal card. Most laptops ahve a VERY easy to getat wireless card, and you can purchase the card on ebay for as low as 9 dollars plus shipping. Find what model laptop you have, and i'll even make a reccomenation, and show you how to access the wifi card.
Hi,,for your own security,,i would suggest that you do not put the serials of your computer up on the internet. As to your problem, if you can use someone else's computer with a CD burner,,,you can go to the HP Compaq web site and download all the drivers that you need. and then transfer them to your laptop. Also,,if you can access the internet from your laptop,,you can download the drivers from HP
Hi, what you will need is a PCMCIA wireless card or usb wireless stick, these can purchased pretty cheaply these days from the likes of ebay or your local computer shop should be able to sort you out. PCMCIA would be the one I would choose as these just slot into an empty bay and once installed, can be left there. Hope this helps, if not give me a shout and I'll see what else I can do. Si :)
