SOURCE: Router MAC address

You can not change MAC addresses. They are set for each manufacturer. You will have a MAC for the WiFi module and a MAC for each switch port. That is actually how switching works between routers (yours and SBC's).

Most units allow you to spoof a MAC so your router can look like another device. For a Linksys that is in the management web page (usually 192.168.1.1) under the advanced tab, then look for MAC addr. clone.

Hope this helps;)

Come across a really annoying problem within our household. We're with TalkTalk for internet, i'm on a PC connected via WiFi through a dongle on the network. There's also a TV that is causing the...

Ok. (I don't know how much help I can offer since I'm in USA and you're in UK). 1) From what little I was able to look up, TalkTalk Internet is really small and has a lot of issues regarding on what it delivers to it's customers. 2) The HUAWEI HG533 Router... (from your description of the symptoms with your TV), seems functioning ok, just that the Bandwidth (Internet speed of your ISP-TalkTalk) is too slow to keep up with everything you want to do once you add the Video for the TV. IF you use the Internet cable from your router to the TV, you should have a Faster connection for internet reception (compared to WiFi. Minimum of N-Band on WiFi should suffice for 1 TV and 1 Computer. 5 Devices or more, I recommend a Better Router and Cable your Devices that need the Fastest connection for response, IE. 1-2 computers, TV or Blu-Ray device that provides content to your TV). Best advice - Inquire your Internet Provider about your situation, Possibly change ISP's, Make sure your Router can handle the Usage on WiFi and Cable connect that you require. I have been using a D-Link DIR-655 N-Band Gaming Router (broadcasts WiFI @ 65Mbps/sec, 4 cable connect Ports with 1Gbps speed) for several years now. I've got 2 puters and a Blu-Ray device cable connected, we WiFi our 3Cell phones, a Sony WII and 2 other puters for our kids. We pay a about $25 more a month for faster Internet speed, all runs rather well (Time Warner Cable Turbo, USA, total Internet cost is $65 a month, we don't subscribe to any tv or land-line phone, since we use cell phones).

My N95 connects to linksys with no problem...But my Nokia e90 gives error "Unable yo connect.WLAN not found."

Hi wasiullahkha,

I see that you connect your Mobile phones to your Router, but you ge an error using your Nokia e90.

> try to check the wireless setting for the Router.

>this is possible that the Router is set to provide wireless only to deivces that are registered on the Linksys settings MAC address.

>try and check the setting in the Linksys Router possibly MAC Address Filtering check if it is enabled if it is then that will be the cause, you will just need to get the MAC Address of your E90 phone and register in the Router settings for the wireless to work and be detected by the phone.

Or check to see if he router is set to be discoverable or not by other devices , if it is not set to be discovered or the SSID is hidden then you cn manually input that info on your Mobile phone.

these are the only options in a Router that can cause devices not to detect the router signal right away.

I hope that his helps.

Have a nice day,

I have two Dell 2350 Wireless Routers trying to bridge or repeat

The first router must the root AP and the second should be set to Wireless Repeater. Follow the steps on how to resolve this setup.

1. Get the Wireless MAC Address of the main router. The router has two MAC addresses, one is wired and 1 is wireless. To determine the wireless MAC address, go to Status page of the router, there's a sub tab there for wireless and you'll see the Wireless MAC Address. Take note of it.

2. Access the setup page of the 2nd router. Change the LAN IP address to 192.168.0.2 then save. Power cycle it by just turning it off for 10 seconds then turn it back on. You can now change it to Wireless Repeater and there's an option for you to type the Wireless MAC address of the main AP. Make sure all wireless settings are the same on both routers like SSID, Channel and Encryption Key. Save your changes after that.

3. From your computer, try to ping the 2nd AP which is 192.168.0.2. If it replied back, you're all set.

Good Luck!

Hi,
For my opinion I suggest using MAC address filter, every network adapter haves a unique MAC address which you can use to only permit those computers with the MAC addresses you want.
Do this method with every wireless computer you want to access your router.
  1. Go to Star -> Run, type cmd and click OK
  2. Type ipconfig/all, here you will see a list of your network adapters, look for your wireless adapter and take note on the physical address number (something like 00-4F-....)
  3. Now go to your wired computer (the one that is wired directly to your router) run Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1 and enter. The router may ask you user name and password, if that's the case try the default password for your router (linksys wrt54g is username: admin, password: admin)
  4. Afer this you go to access restrictions and click Edit list of PC's.
  5. A window will pop up, you will see input boxes with labels like MAC 01, MAC 02, etc...
  6. Type the physical address you have got from the wireless computer in any input box labeled MAC 01, MAC02, etc...
  7. Click save settings and go back to Access Restrictions, make sure you have checked Allow.
  8. Now click on Enable and then save settings.
If you have more than one wireless computer hooked up with your router then do this process with each wireless computer you have (it is not necessary to do this with your wired computer).
Hope this works!
