Question about Intel (C733) Celeron A, 700 MHz Processor

1 Answer

Can I put to much RAM in the motherboard for the Processor?

Motherboard is a Gateway D865GLC currently has 2-256MB DDR PC2700 and 2 open slots. Online diognostic Crucial memory stick thing says each slot can handle a max 1gb card. I am looking at put 2- 1GB DDR400 PC3200 or DDR333/PC2700 in the empties for a total of 2.5 GB. My Processor is a Pentium 4 2.60 GB 800 MHZ FSB w/ HT. Is quintupling the RAM like this outdoing what the processor is capable of, or should cause no problems? All of the RAM is Non-ECC and unbuffered. Intel 865G Chipset is on the motherboard. Thanks for the time and input.

Sorry I put this in the wrong spot, not sure if someone can move it to either the Gateway motherboards or the Pentium Processors?

That additional RAM will be good for your computer so it will be much faster and don't worry everything should work fine there after adding new RAM to your computer....

I want to upgrade my processor and memory on my acer travelmate 4000. I currently have an Intel Pentium M 1.5GHz 496RAM processor. I have 2 memory slots each containing 256MB type DDR PC2700, DDR...

I suggest adding 2X 1GB DDR PC2700 memory sticks. Crucial also recommends it, but as long as it's only 1gb thats DDR PC2700 per stick it's compatible, so you can shop around if you like and choose the cheapest.

Hope this helps!

I have this ASUS P4GE-MX Motherboard. I want to upgrade my ram from DDR 256 MB TO DDR 1 GB. For temporary purpose, I tried another 256 DDR ram with 400 MHZ, but I had some problem with booting my system....

Hello, The Motherboard's specifications mention that it uses DDR Ram, while the FSB runs at 400MHz. That means that any kind of DDR memory will work up to the maximum of 2 GB (it has 2 slots, so it's up to the max of 2x1GB DDR sticks).
There's no issue with the speed, actually the faster you can get the better results you will have. Try looking for 1GB DDR 400MHz (preferably two of them, if you want to max out the capacity and since it's kind of cheap to do so).
The one you tried and didn't work, might be due to a faulty RAM module.

Can i install 1GB ddr2 on P4VMM2 Motherboard? i want to upgrade my pc; board is: can i P4VMM2 Motherboard; cani i use 1GB ddr2 on this and a 512 MB if vid.card? -jayvee_yao@yahoo.com

Hi,

Unfortunetly you cannot use ddr2 memory on this motherboard. The motherboard supports only PC2100/PC1600 DDR memory if you have version 8.1 of the motherboard. If you have v5.0 of the motherboard than you can only use sdram or ddr 266Mhz RAM. The same goes for the video card. The p4vmm2 motherboard is a rather old motherboard so I don't think it will payoff to upgrade the computer. It will be probably the best if you buy another computer.

best regards

Can you have to much Ram for a processor?

You'll be fine. If you have been on crucial you know then whether the modules need to be in matched pairs, which is what it looks like you are doing. The only limitations on RAM are when you go to 4GB using 32-bit processing. It will most likely not all show. But with 2.5GB, you should be humming along quite nicely.

You can use even 1 stick of 2GIG of RAM or 2 X 1GIG of RAM or any combination will do for as long it will just be a max of 2GIG since that's the max support of your motherboard....

Increasing Memory Ram

According to the memory configurator at www.crucial.com your motherboard has two RAM slots that can handle one gig of PC2700 RAM each.
