Re: more signal and run faster
The only way to get a better signal would be to get an external wireless adaptor. I need to know what you are using and what kind of network you are logging onto.
This is just one site that shows how many choices you have. If you can determine what you need for a network adaptor then just google the words wireless adaptor or wireless network adaptor. As i said this is the only way i know to get a better signal.
Tip: N-network covers the largest area = best reception

If you have a wireless router and you want to setup a wireless network so your computers can share data between computers and access the Internet via a DSLor cable modem then -To connect to your wireless router, the router needsits wireless settings to be configured with the SSID, encryption key etc., alsothe wireless cards and wireless adapters in all the laptops/computers needs tobe configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router and access the Internet via the DSLor cable modem.
unless you have a wireless router in your home; the msg "windows cannot find any wireless networks"
means any network in your area is too far away, or has a signal so weak your laptop is not picking it up as a viable source.
visit . www.filehippo.com and DL a file called Ccleaner. Run this program - it will clean all your internet caches and junk files, then run the registry cleaner. Reboot. This can keep you from connecting.
Also try moving to different areas in your home and refreshing your wireless search.
if you are worried your wireless card may not be working properly, take it to a place like mcdonalds, or anywhere that has free wi-fi offered. if you still can not pick up a signal there you have narrowed it down to your wireless adapter.
you can also try this little program. Easy Wi-fi radar found here
Ask them to review you connection speed to make sure your getting the speed you ordered. Linksys is usually pretty good. See if it's faster WITHOUT using the wireless (plug directly into the modem). If it is I can only think of two things... Ether you need to relocate your wireless modem to acheive a stronger signal OR if your signal is strong on your adapters end, you could always upgrade to a different wireless adapter that can handle faster conections.
The bars on your wireless card indicates the signal strength that your laptop is receiving, the only way to increase the bars is to move your laptop closer to your wireless router access point, or move your wireless router to another location, eg higher, away from walls, especially concrete reinforced or metal/foil walls.
OR You can buy another wireless router access point that has a higher transmitting power, which will give you greater range.
The best way to make your laptop faster is to add more RAM, especially if it has 256Mb or less, ideally get a total of 1Gb, 2Gb if you can afford it. Most laptops have two memory slots, try to get memory for the same manufacturer.
To maintain you laptop, you should do a Disk Cleanup and a Defrag at least once a month.
