Its not a condensor problem, its the evaporator coil behind this iced up panel inside the freezer thats covered in ice thats causing your unit not to cool, either the defrost heater is open(bad) or the defrost terminator is bad,you need to remove this panel on the inside rear wall of the freezer to access these 2 components, they can both be tested with an ohm meter, however the defrost terminator has to be below 20 degrees to be tested properly,as this terminator shuts off the defrost cycle when the evaporator gets too warm during defrosting cycle to keep the freezer wall from melting

Our is doing the same thing, except we do not have ice forming on the back of the freezer. We were told by a refrigeration repair company that if ice is forming on the back of the freezer then the compressor is bad.

SOURCE: My freezer keeps icing up and my fridge won't get cool

The small cooling fan in the freezer compartment that sends chilled air to the food side is defective and needs replacement.  Sometimes that are only frozen stuck.

When you receive advice from this website you have to understand that without the item in front of us, we are only able to provide "a best guess" as to what the problem might be based on you description of the defect.  If you haven't described a clear and precise description of the defect you decrease the chances of an accurate reply.  Thank you.

SOURCE: fridge/freezer cooling inefficiently

Either the repair guy did not wire up the heater correctly or he replaced the wrong part, if the heater was good it was likley to be the defrost thermostat...I would call the repair guy back to check.

Make sure your 'Freezer Fan is working ... if not replace it. Then, you may have a 'Defrost Problem' .. check freezer rear wall for any ice build-up. If there is ice .. the ref will have to be shut down ... remove all freezer food and remove freezer rear wall (panel with freezer fan) de-ice evaporator coil with hair dryer. Check Defrost Heater for resistance value (approximately 20 ohms ... means it OK). Replace the Defrost Terminator ... (if Open on ohms check) ...recommend replacement as this part is very troublesome and is very inexpensive to buy. Make sure, Condenser Fan under ref is working ... if not replace it. Make sure Condenser Coil under refrigerator is clean of dust and dirt. If needed vacuum coil. Finally your Defrost Control assembly may be at fault and will need to be replaced. Good Luck! Kenmore upright freezer

Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

I am going to assume your compressor and condenser fan is running. Your condenser fan is in the lower back of your freezer.

You will need to remove the back cover in your freezer. There are 6 screws holding it on.

Check the following (Cover Removed):

1.) Frozen Drain - Your freezer goes into a defrost mode every 8-10 hours, where your freezer shuts down except for the lights, and your defrost heater turns on for about 20-30 minutes to defrost your cooling coil. If you have a frozen drain, the condensate builds up behind the back wall and icing the cooling coil, restricting air flow. You must defrost the coil.

2.) Freezer Fan Motor Failure - Having removed the back wall observe if the freezer fan motor is running. If not replace.

3.) Refrigerant Restriction or Leak - If you observe a large build-up of ice in the upper right hand corner, then you have a restriction or leak. The cost of repair would be about $400.00

4.) Bad Thermostat - In the upper right hand corner of you cooling coil, attached is your thermostat. They can explode, where the back of the thermostat will raise up.

You can also check it with a multi-meter, set to the lowest Ohms (Omega Symbol). You need to cut the wires, leaving enough wire length to rewire back in. Put the thermostat in a glass of ice water for 10 minutes. After, it should Ohm out around 16. It is reads '0' or infinity it is bad. Below 15 or 16 it is bad

My maytag bottom freezer works but the fridge is not cooling all of a sudden. Just had the compressor replaced

possible causes: bad door seals or condensate drain plugged causing evaporator coils (in freezer) to ice up, condenser or evaporator fans not on, condenser coils dirty, compressor not working, or a freon leak. if the back wall of your freezer is frosty or super cold, the coils are iced up. remove the back wall and defrost it with a hair dryer. if the water doesn't drain, unclog the drain tube. check the door seals for gaps. replace if necessary. check the fan in the freezer and the fan in the back. both should come on when the compressor is on. if not, check the fuses on the main board. replace if needed. if all that is fine, and there is no frost, you have a slow leak or a bad compressor. call in a pro or get a new fridge.

Condensation at top of inside refrigerator

you have a drain hose from the top back of the freezer down to the condensate pan on the bottom of the refrigerator near the floor
this hose is blocked causing ice to build up behind the rear inner wall.
remove the back of the freezer wall and using a funnel pour hot water in to the hose to clear the condensate hose also remove all the ice behind the wall; remove the back cardboard to see the water come through the hose into the condensate tray when you pour the water it should pour right through if it's clear

I have a large water patch on the wall behind my integrated fridge freezer what could this be

Condensation? Are there any coils on the back in that area that could have iced up? Does the back of the unit feel cold? Maybe just poorly insulated and cooling the wall allowing condensation of humid air.

Freezer running, ice maker not producing, hot in middle divder.

The dividing section should be warm, to keep unit from sweating. (by design). Cleaning under the refrigerator was what cooled it down. You cleaned the condenser. The condenser allows the refrigerent to cool down. When it was dirty, the condenser could not get enough air to cool down.

Freezer not freezing and fridge not cooling

Check the back wall of the freezer for ice buildup.
If yes, a defrost parts problem.
Check the freezer fan. Is it running?
If no, replace the freezer fan.
Check the condenser fan at the compressor. Is it running?
If no, is compressor hot?
If compressor is hot replace condenser fan motor.
If compressor is not hot.
Replace the compressor start relay.
