Question about GE SDVR-16 Video Recorder

1 Answer

Video loss I have 16 security cameras hooked up to this system and when I came in this morning all my screens had a V flashing in the top left corners. I started to notice that none of my feeds were live either. I think the flashing V stands for video loss. Any knowledge on how to fix this problem?

You're right... it is indicating video loss. from my experience, at least 90% of the time it's because the cameras aren't getting power.

Trying to set up system 1080 p. TV is 720. In setup said was incompatible. Now we have no screen to change it

You have two options: upgrade to 1080 TV's or monitors, or downgrade your security system to one compatible with your 720 screen. For security purposes, the 1080 system will offer a clearer picture when details may be of utmost importance. With that in mind, the first option would be the best.

I need a converter that will allow me to hook up the rj12 cables to the coaxial connections on a 16 channel revo dvr

you wan to hook up coaxial to rj12 ,if you you do that the wire of rj12 has not to exceed 3 meters
cause camera signal (video) to become weak. Camera Video signal has to be fed only to coaxial cable, coaxial cable has an insulation to prevent interference.
so if you want to hook up be sure put a shielded wire.
thanks......hope this help.

Long story, short version. New 16 top line camera system. Monitors in office and apartment in seperate building. All components and wires are new. When running appliances or even turning light switches on...

Chances are your installer used different power sources within your building to provide power to the cameras. If electric power is being supplied through multiple circuits (different breakers) this can cause sync problems and interference. The first thing I would try is to put all the cameras on the same power supply. A DC power supply is best if your cameras accept DC voltage. The second thing is to check how close all camera coaxial cables are running near high voltage lines (120/240 VAC). Eventhough coaxial cable is shielded you can induce voltage bleed over from electrical lines into your video, which will appear as interference lines on your monitor. Cables should be at least 2 feet away from electrical lines. If both wires run together parallel for more than 10 feet then you need to cross over the electrical line at a right angle every 10 feet. This will help eliminate interference.

I bought a CCTV system for a school but I have some electric problem that the image looks like it's flashing? what is the problem since Iam new to this. IT's like it has brightness

Line loss from the camera to the DVR or monitor and ground loops are the most common problems. If you only see black and white from a color camera, it typically means the cable from the camera to the DVR is too long and/or has high loss caused by a poor BNC connector.

Excessive brightness can mean the video signal from the camera is too strong. This can be caused by an impedance mismatch from using the wrong type of video coax (cabling).

Additionally, a camera power supply plugged into a different electrical circuit (not the same outlet as the DVR or montior) can cause ground loop problems that can affect the video quality.
