I have this problem too, but it happens randomly. I had a guy come out to fix this. He suggested that I make sure the water going in is hot THEN start the machine. It did make a little diff. but not allot. I don't like letting that much water go down the drain for no reason here in Southern Calif. Do you also have the problem of NO aluminum in this machine because it turns black?
    Hope this helps

The problem is hard water. www.dishwasherfilter.com has a product to solve this problem once and for all. It filters the water going into your dishwasher and removes the hard minerals that leave those spots. It is very affordable and even has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look with this product.

Dishes have a chalky white residue after cleaning, especially on aluminum pots. This model was installed a little less than a year ago and the residue started appearing a few weeks ago.

Getting a heavy chalky film on my dishes after cycle. Already filled with Jet Dry.

This could be do to the banning of phosphates in dishwasher soap in some states. Just started using the phosphate free soap and there is a chalky substance on my dishes. This did not happen when I used the soap with the phosphates in.

White film 0n dishes and especially glasses

It is a drain problem, check the drain hose and drain pump. There should be some problem with the drain being blocked that is eventually pushing the dirt water back and front.Thereby leaving detergent and dirt back in the dishwasher.
Provide me the model number and i can help you out with some internal diagrams in case you don't find the drain pump.
Good luck and please do post for further doubts arising on this solution.

Are you in a location with "hard" water, meaning that the water has alot of minerals in it like calcium? If so, you may may need to get the water treated with a water softener system, either at the dishwasher or for the whole house.
