SOURCE: refrigerator ,freezer and bottom not getting cold

Hello
Welcome to fixya.
I'm Huuum and happy to assist you,

The compressor is running ,but fan in top not running . The heater in top check good, also defrost thermostat is good and you think defrost timer is OK.
There was some ice on the top coil when you first took the back cover off, so you though may be heater or defrost time, but they test OK as far as you know.

Did you check the pressure to see if the coolant is low?
This will cause icing if you need freon!

How old is the fridge?
Here is an interesting report I just read!

Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old refrigerator

It nearly always makes sense to undertake simple do-it-yourself repairs,
such as replacing a gasket on a refrigerator or a freezer.

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your refrigerator,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your refrigerator is under warranty or less than four years old (three years for top-freezers),
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that refrigerators under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your refrigerator is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models are quieter and have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new refrigerator.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive top-freezer refrigerator
six or more years old or a bottom-freezer or side-by-side eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of a refrigerator you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned WARMER WHICH MAKES THE REF COLDER AND VICE-VERSA. SEE?
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
But is probably a common defrost problem The ice build up
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

My Frigidaire FV245 freezer is frosted up and not auto defrosting as it should, how can I defrost it please?

Hello Patricia;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

The number your provided is probably the freezer manual number, which is general for several different models.

I assume your have a upright freezer. The model number is on a label on the left hand side wall.

OK, you can unplug your freezer for 24 hours and clean up with a lot of towels to defrost.

But, I do not think you want to do that. You want to solve the problem.

1.) Frozen Drain - Every 8-10 hours your freezer goes through a defrost cycle where everything shuts down except for the light. When this happens your defrost heater turns on for 20-30 minutes to defrost your cooling coil. If you have a frozen drain, the condensate builds up a wall of ice behind the lower back panel.

Fix: Remove the lower back panel. It is held on with about 10 screws. Pull the side rubber molding out. This molding is easily removed. With a hair dryer defrost the cooling coil. This may take several hours. DO NOT USE ANY METAL TOOLS. YOU MAY DAMAGE THE COOLING COIL. Note: Your defrost heater can not handle the block of ice.

2.) Bad Defrost Timer - In the back of your freezer lower left hand side you have a defrost timer. You will see a small metal plate with a hole through it. There is a stem. Insert a flat head screw drive in the slot of the stem. Slowly turn clockwise one click at a time until your freezer turn off, except for the light.

3.) Bad Defrost Heater - Having tripped the freezer into the defrost model, observe the defrost heater. This is either a metal or glass bar under your cooling coil. Is it glowing hot? If not you have a bad defrost heater. This component is about $35.00 USD and easily replaced.

If it is glowing hot then you have a bad defrost timer. The defrost timer is easily replace and about $30.00 USD.

Defrost Timer. Note the stem on the left.

You could have a bad evaporator motor or Bi-metl (Thermostat).

But I think the above is where your problem lies Let me know how you make out. Send me your model number and I will give you the component part number and cost.

The unit freezes up then don't work

OK I'm looking over the manual and as long as the model number is correct RS2630SH you may have only one of three things causing this. I needing to go to another website to confirm the type defrost system yours has. I will send you a manual when I return. It appears that you have a higher possibility of a defrost heater or defrost thermostat defective.I am getting mixed answers on a decision of a defrost control board. Just make sure your model number does not have a different number or letter missing. I will send as much as I can find on your model but checking the defrost heater and defrost thermostat would be the first thing to do. Unplug refrigerator and remove contents of the freezer rear wall. we need to use a meter to check continuity through the defrost heater. If one is bad replace both defrost heater part number DA47-00154A and defrost thermostat part number DA47-10160F.
One model came with a defrost control board but I just cannot find one on that model number so the motherboard controls defrost. I will send manual shortly. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Model rs21dcsv freeze is working but fridge is not working

CHeck to see if there is ice built up on the back wall of the freezer. If so you have a defrost problem. Manually defrost it then take the back wall out of the frezer and check ohms on the heater if heater is ok then replace just the defrost timer and thermostat. If heater is bad replace all three.

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

Fridge doesn't get cold enough

you have either a Defrost heater / a defrost timer/ or a defrost bi-metal that is bad. if you post your model # i can look it up and show you how to set it into defrost to see if the heaters are ok
Since you replaced the timer already that leaves two things you need to check set it into defrost if you know how and remove the panel in the back wall of the freezer you should see the heater(s) are on if not check pwr 120vac at the heaters if 0 volts the bi-metal is bad
