I have a DCR-TRV103 camcorder and would like to upload the video to my laptop (Compaq Presario V3019US). I bought a digital camcorder cable that will connect to my camcorder and converts to a usb on the opposite end so that I can connect it to my usb port. The opperating system is windows XP. I can't get the computer to recognize the usb connection. When I do a control pannel add a digital devise, it doesn't work either. How can I record onto a disk if my laptop won't allow me to connect? Thanks,

I would like to know more about this USB adapter cable you bought. The camera has a IEEE-1394 (commonly refered to as Firewire or i-Link) connection that is inherently incompatible with USB. I don't see how one cable could do the trick unless it had some kind of conversion hardware built into it. Does it have a little box on the cable or is it just a straight cable?
CNet.com says that your laptop has a four pin Firewire port on it. I would go to BestBuy and tell them you need a Firewire cable with a four pin connector on both ends. If they give you a weird look tell them that is the small Firewire plug, not the big one. If they are still confused, get somebody else to help you. Then use that cable to plug your camera into your computer. Windows should recogonize it automatically. If it doesn't there may be a problem with you camera.

Check if you have a Firewire port that is either a 6pin or 4 pin port that looks like

Use a firewire IEEE 1394 cable kit and appropriate software too transfer to PC. Most firewire to usb cable will not work.
You will need a
1. Firewire cable
2. Firewire port on PC/Laptop as well.
3. Recent OS that supports firewire.
4. Appropriate image/video editing software.

Product Summary
4-pin to 4-pin IEEE 1394 iLink FireWire Cable dv out to laptop Connect and transfer home movie from your digital camcorder to Notebook computer.

You will need a Firewire port on your computer, also known as a DV port or IEEE 1394, to use this cable. This is NOT a USB cable.

This DV cable will connect your laptop (notebook)
NOTE: for some models, becuase of no DV jack on the body, this cable connects to docking station/cradle instead of connecting directly to your camcorder.

A lot of people have had problems with this. You will need either a usb cable or firewall cable to transfer the videos to the computer. It looks like it works all right with a Sony Vaio computer, but people are reporting problems trying to import the videos to other computers. I didn't see anyone with a solution, per se, so I would contact Sony to see what they have to say. As far as the usb port on the cam, I've never owned one, but have read about references to it in reviews, so it must be on there somewhere. Wish I had more info for you, but it looks like this is a big problem with this model cam.

Dcr-pc9e handy cam with no connectors

Hi,
To transfer video from your camcorder to your computer you will need a firewire cable (IEEE 1394). Only with this cable you will be able to transfer video.

Please note that you will also need a firewire port on your computer. if you don't have one then you can buy a firewire PCI card.

Please see the following link for more info and pictures.

DCR-TRV355E Sony Handy Cam not recognizes by Vista o my 32 bit HP lap top (New)

If you are using the USB cable to connect the Camcorder to the Computer to transfer the videos to the Computer then:

This Camcorder does not support USB streaming with the VISTA Operating System. Use an i.LINK cable to transfer the video to the Computer.

The i.LINK port is also called IEEE 1394 or Firewire port. (An i.LINK is a black D shaped connector with 4 or 6 pins. The type of cable to be used will depend on the i.LINK port of your Computer. The Sony Camcorder will have the 4 pin i.LINK cable and if the computer has the 6 pin i.LINK port, then you may have to use the 4 pin to 6 pin i.LINK Cable).

You can use any video capturing software like Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video to the Computer.

Refer this link for the instruction to transfer the video to the Computer using i.LINK cable.

NOTE: You do not require any Drivers or Software from Sony to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer using the i.LINK/Firewire interface.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a sony DCR-TRV103..trying to upload video to my laptop using a USB cable...but the laptop does not recognize the camera..and I can't find any drivers? Any ideas?

You can't do this with USB. You need special cord - 1394 IEEE adapter on one end, and a DV adapter on the other (camera)end. This fits into slot on front of camera under and to the left of the microphone.
