The box or set may be bad, what channel or input is used for the box, since we cannot read minds we need to know what you have tried, the loss of signal is really no signal

SOURCE: my tv is attached to a cable inpt but no cable box

The signal you are viewing is an analog signal.

The cable companies take the signals for your basic channels and resend them through the cable as analog so the customers that still plug the cable direct to their TV can still get some programming without the added costs of digital cable boxes on every TV.

This option will be slowly phased out over time but for now it is available.

Tv problem- I have a LG model47lb5800. when I turn on the TV it shows a picture and sound for about 3-10 minutes. The TV then goes black flashes a picture intermittently. What's failing?

I had a similar problem in DEC 2017. Curiously the cable company stopped by in a week or so. (I did not call them for service.) It was a "SPECTRUM" truck and not an "OCEANIC" truck. Apparently Oceanic got bought out and the Technician was going around the neighborhood (Honolulu) searching for "Home Broadcasts" I remember reading about WW2 military was looking for homes with RF signals (looking for spys) I'm a retired Army Signal Corps. The Spectrum tech installed a filter on my cable line to prevent our home from producing stray signals. He also told me that my 'analog' TV won't work in JAN 2018 as they are switching to all digital by then. Says my cable will work for a while but expect the company to switch all the cable boxes out to digital. Sure enough my TV stopped working (on analog channel 3) and my cable box stopped sending the analog signal to my analog set. I found out that some of the other outputs worked (HDMI, Optical, etc.) I got the Bedroom TV (bought 2017) to work on HDMI. Picture is crisp BUT I don't seem to have the picture size right. It's smaller than normal (on analog) and changing screen from normal, wide, zoom, etc. really makes it worse. Panoramic is the best so far. Now I notice our older 'Monitor' 42" Plazma (2010?) still works on Chan 3 analog signal. I didn't have another HDMI ($30) cable so I tried using my old DVD Yellow-White-Red RCA cables and found it did not work.
* So.. Short answer; you need to get your TV hooked up to the HDMI output of the cable box. But I would check with your cable company first to see if they can resolve your issue. Now days, they can use a computer (from their end) to correct the problem or send out a service tech.

PS Try rescanning for channels. You will need channel 3 (sometimes #4) If it shows vertical bars then your set can't tune to the cable box. (Just like the old days of "Outer Limits") They do control the horizontal and vertical. You can try to hook your TV directly to the cable without the cable box to get some of the analog and digital channels if your set is less than 10 years old. But the channels are weird and hard to browse. You will need to write down the channels to remember your favorites. Cable remote won't work. But this is just a short term fix. You will end up subscribing to a cable or internet TV service.

How do I hook up Coby 5" black & white TV to my digital converter box ?

You will need a digital to analog converter which you can get at Radio Shack, Best Buy and most big box retail outlets or online. Your Coby is most likely analog and will require the digital signal to be converted to an analog signal from the digital converter box to the TV. UNLESS the digital converter box has analog (round connectors on the back) then you just need an analog RCA cable (which you can also get almost anywhere even your local CVS/Walgreens) to make the connection.

Line floats from bottom of screen to top. Is it the direct cable hook up that causes that to happen.

Hello bbarnell821,

Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!

Your issue is from the tuner within the TV. The new cable standard is Digital, and your TV has an Analog tuner. Visit your local Best Buy or the link I have provided below, to purchase a converter that will convert the digital backwards to analog for your TV Set.

We have used this TV as a primary hooked directly to the cable box. Now we bought a larger Sony and want to put this one in another room. We unplugged the set from the cable box carried it to the other...

first, be sure the cable outlet is working. If so then you have to reprogram the tv by doing a channel search in "analog" since it's no longer connected via a "digital" box. Just go to the tv menu, search channels(analog) and start.

Unable to view digitial tv pictures but audio and analogue pictures work

If you have cable and a top of set box , it may be the problem. If you hook the cable direct to the set and still no digital ... then the TV could have a defective digital board. The tuner is on this board and the tuner gets both analog and digital signals.

No signal

I had a similar problem. I then noticed that my antenna has a RG6 cable. This is good. My TV requires RG6 and requires TV(RF) cable that is also RG6. Insignia comes with a TV(RF) cable that is RG59! That's a cable with a smaller diameter center connector than RG6. Consequently, when that smaller RG59 was run from the converter box to the TV's larger RG6 female connector, no signal connection was completed since the center connector made no physical contact with the TV's female connector. I found a RG6 cable to replace the RG59 cable supplied with converter box and all worked then. Also, you must force the antenna's RG6 male plug into the smaller RG59 female connector, but it'll make it.

no. all you will need is a digital cable box.all analog channels will not be broadcasted.if you have multiple tv's without a box, they would all need boxes.

Magnavox hdtv

The Magnavox 27MS343S is a standard analog 27" TV. It is not high definition and therefore cannot generate a posterized or pixelated picture. I will bet you are using a digital cable box or satellite reveiver and the problem is in that box, not the TV. Hook up a regular VCR to the TV, set the TV to channel 3, put in a good pre-recorded tape and hit PLAY. If the tape plays nice and clear on the TV, the problem is in your digital box.
