SOURCE: 50" LG Plasma - Thin red vertical line in middle of screen

I work for a auth LG service center and each time I have had this symptom we had to either change what called the T_CON control board or the Plasma display panel itself. You need to cocntact LG @ 800-253-0000 report your problem and they will find a service center in your area you should have 1 year warranty parts and labor.

SOURCE: LCD TV

This set should still be under warranty. Inquire about warranty service. DO NOT open it up as that would void the warranty. There is a problem with either the logic board or the panel itself. In either case, it will be covered under warranty.

SOURCE: purple line down middle of screen

I could do with a digital photo to be sure, however it sounds like the LCD panel itself has failed.

Sorry.

SOURCE: black bar down middle of screen

these cables are machine installed on the panel itself, not user fixable. however, the cables are mounted to a circuit board at bottom of the screen. to reach they you need to remove nearly all the support structure and boards at the bottom of the panel. there are a number of sensitive parts under there and they have black 'licourus' on the chips to dissipate heat. good luck.

That is a text box and you can turn it off from the closed captioning button on your remote or from the closed captioning sub menu category in your tvs menu.

WE HAVE A BLACK BOX IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR TV AND CAN'T GET IT OFF WITH THE REMOTE

Black boxes in the middle of the screen are text boxes. Text is a part of the closed captioning feature either on your television or your cable/set top box. You would press the closed captioning button on the remote repeatedly until it displays cc off or something similar. Captioning might also be active on your cable box/set top box. There is normally a hidden menu on the cable box and that is where closed captioning is. You have to turn the cable box off. Yes I did say turn the cable box off. Then press the menu button on it and then the hidden menu will pop up. Then navigate to closed captioning and choose disable.

My tv has a black square in the middle of the screen.how do i remove it

thats your closed captioning. on your remote, there should be a button on your remote to remove the closed captioning or to change the captioning type. Look for the "C.C." Button. press it. the closed captioning type will change. press again and again untill there is no text or it says "off or None"...
Hope that helped.

Somehow you have turned on closed captioning in TEXT mode. Navigate the setup menus to find the closed captioning options and turn it off.

That should resolve the problem.
