Question about TV Receivers & DVRs

1 Answer

Toshiba tv makes static type sounds when I turn it on.

I have a Toshiba 19 inch portable tv . It works very well except for one thing. Every time I turn it on it make a loud noise like static and the pictures kind of jumps and this keeps up until I wiggle the cable at the back of the set. Then it will eventually stop until the next time I turn it on. Then it's the same thing. Do you think I need to solder in a new jack for the cable?
Thank you for your help.

I would replace or at least resolder the connections on the cable jack on the tv itself. You seem to have a loose ground or cold solder joint on the ground portion of the jack. Be sure as well to check that your actual cable has a good solid end on it as well.

After switching off and on last night the volume and mute on stopped responding on Humax remote. IT is PVR9150T and remote RT531B. TV Remote works fine with volume. Humax remote works fine on all exce

Note that this type of device is designed to be left on at all times, so should not be switched off each night. I suspect that it has some slight corruption in the user-settings, so a factory reset may be required.

Sound on Tv is turning on by itself

It (or something connected to it) is checking for firmware updates. Check the menu settings. Also check any device connected via scart to the TV.

I have a ViP722 DTV. I bought a new 52 inch sanyo LCD tv.\r\nI connected my Tv to the reciever using the "HDMI" cable. Programed the remote to run the tv and the DISH. All is fine! EXCEPT!!!! ...

I've had a few battles with Dishnetwork myself anfd the only thing you can do, if you want to keep the service is, 1 Pay a 15.00 fee for them to come out or, 2 Ge them o the phone and they will take you through a diagnostics with you which should end up with them sending you a new receiver in abox that you will put your old receiver in adn return it to them. I paid the 15.00 fee because I refused to go throuh the diagnostics over the phone. I've had mine replaced at least three times. Other than having to deal with them over the phone, I like the service and I had even bigger problems with Directv. If you already have changed your frequencies and that doesn't work, the only other thing you can try is pulling the piece out at the bottom of remote under where it says "dish Networks" and turn it over. The piece does come out. I'm pretty sure they will not let you out of your contract so you will end up with additional fees if you drop the service.

I have a phillips tube type HD TV approximately 5 years old. It quit working suddenly tonight. It is connected to Direct TV and that system appears to be working fine. When I give power to the Satellite...

This sounds like a power supply problem in the TV. The chirping sound is probably a relay turning on and off as the overload circuit is triggered, trips, then resets, etc. Electrolytic capacitors in the power supply usually have a cylindrically shaped metal case with 2 or 3 legs, and their chemicals dry out in a few years, and they fail. Sometimes they bulge out or crack and leak chemicals, and sometimes they blow up. I've seen 15 year old IBM monitors go from fuzzy green to factory fresh, just replacing 5 or 6 electrolytics in the power supply. You can get them at Radio Shack or electronic parts stores, along with a soldering iron, wick, and solder. There are videos on YouTube that show how to solder, and remove solder.
Otherwise, a lot of things could be an unusual culprit, and the unit would have to be systematically troubleshot further, to ascertain the bad part(s). Unfortunately, again, most tv repair facilities replace boards, in stead of taking the time to study schematics and troubleshoot. They have the advantage of having spare parts (and boards), or can order them and charge, whether that fixes it or not. Unfortunately, a lot of times the boards can only be ordered and replaced (not the parts, for which no listing shows up anywhere in the Western hemishere, forcing one to spend well over $100 most of the time.
Hook up another tv the direct output to make sure the tv is, indeed, the unit with the problem.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

Toshiba rd-kx50 recorder error 3B - HDMI doesn't recognize tv

WOW another person that kept the rd-kx50, Welcome brother or sister to the fold..lol.

I had that problem a couple of times, I just remove the hdmi cable while the tv and recorder are off, and then connect it once it's back on.
It's a pain to do this, but you could just use the component cables and not worry about the issue (at a slight cost of picture quality)
