SOURCE: moen positemp cartridge won't come out of brass body housing

I used ViceGrips on the shaft, and stuck a straightblade screwdriver between the ViceGrips and the brass shell. A little prying, and it popped out.

A stem is a cartridge in a real old valve. You have pulled retainer clip, you can try to pull it out with pliers, but you might need a moen cartrigde puller.

SOURCE: Moen single stem bathroom basin tap (25 years

You are on the right track. You have to use some force when pulling the stem from the faucet. Your replacement cartridge should have a little black or whit cap. that is inserted on top of the cartridge and by turning the cap will help loosen the whole cartridge

SOURCE: we are trying to put the retaining clip back in

The Cartridge probably isn't in all the way. Pushing it in by hand doesn't always seat it properly.

Make sure the clear plastic is centered in the gap where you push the clip in, then a few gentle taps with the wrench, followed by pushing around the edges (the black part) with a flat-blade screwdriver gets it all the way in.

If the cartridge is aligned and seated right, the clip should slide right in. If you have to force it, the cartridge is not in right.

When I turn on the cold or hot water sink faucet water leaks out from the top of the cold water faucet . I took the outer casking off and can not figure how to remove the stem. I removed the ring but...

if you have the ring removed, screw the handle back on and pull up on it,, your leak is probably due to a worn , torn , "O" ring,, and Moen parts are found at most hardware stores ,, ( including Home depot , and Lowes) On Moen faucets , Look for the dent in the flange that squares off,, where that square is on the ring, is where the retainer ring is that holds the faucet in place ..its a "C" clip with a head on it, remove this ring and the assembly should come out , be sure and use plumbers grease when replacing the O rings,, they last much longer that way

The moen shower pullout type hot/cold valve will not slide out of the main valve body even after the retainer clip has been removed. I found some corrosion on the retainer clip and I have sprayed the area...

Howdy, those can be like pulling teeth. The wd40 will not help that much as it is not a robust solvent. I suggest letting some liquid wrench sit overnight on it and then pulling real hard. Good luck:)

I have a Moen kitchen faucet, model 87511, that leaks around the insert that the aerator screws on. can I remove it? How? Is there an ''O'' ring that can be replaced? Fred Winker

Unscrew the retaining ring that holds the aerator and "O" ring. Note the O ring may be made out of brass or rubber. If brass it must be inserted with the beveled edge "in" Replace the retaining ring, sealing the threads with a small amout of plumbers putty or teflon tape. You can get a a repair kit which contains everthing you'll need for a couple of bucks at most hardware stores.

that is a good one you have to be careful not to mark the plating.  what I do is get some rubber or heavy cardboard and put it around the facet.  then I use my channel locks on the ring .  you have to be firm.  There is a tool called a strap wrench for this aplication but I never liked it much.  something like the one you would use to change an oil filter.

Repair cartridge in Moen Monticello single handle lavatory faucet

After some additional experimenting, contrary to information I was previously able to gather, I discovered that the white plastic retainer doesn't (in this type of Moen faucet) actually screw off but rather is held in place by a spring clip inserted from the rear of the retainer (toward the wall side of the basing). Simply sticking a small screwdriver in the opening (approx. 45 degrees downward) and tipping the screwdriver toward the front of the faucet, snaps the spring clip out through the opening.
The plastic retainer than lifts off. Note: the flat sides on the retainer suggest that a wrench will be needed but such is not the case.
