Here's a Freeware program that will hep you keep your system running good, CCLEANER athttp://www.filehippo.com/download_cclean... Use it to clean the junk and free-up HDD space. ALSO many useful tools. In the TOOLS section, STARTUP, you can disable unnessary Startup programs that, as the computer gets used, will slow down startups.

If it is updating it will take a while to load updates. Once all the updates are installed it should Boot and shut down faster. Just let it finish the updates. do not disturb until finished.

Stop Unwanted startup programs:
Click Start > Run > write msconfig > Click on StartUp tab

Deselect the programs you want to stop.
If startup is still slow then scan pc with a system utility tool like Intel Software Partner Reginout.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Startup very slow on my new dell 660 desktop

Sounds Like a virus, Download Spybot S&D enable it, run it and un install it after it has corrected the problem, The reason you need to get rid of it afterward is it could do damage to system files if its let to run in the system too long

Im trying to restore my dell pc back to factory settings its running vista f8 is not working i can only use f2 and f12

I would recommend using the Dell factory restore DVD. It probably didn't come with your computer (companies save money by not shipping a DVD with the computer). You can order it from Dell and it will probably cost less than $20.
Many times the restore function by hitting a special function key at startup becomes corrupt and doesn't work.
I'd opt for a new DVD to use.

The first check you could make is if every component is correctly plugged.
When the pc starts it makes a control of all components before booting. You may want to check also internal components.
For this reason is also useful to know if when the pc starts it does only one "beep" or a "beep code" (for instance one long and one short "beep" or two long "beeps" ecc)
If everything is correctly plugged it may be a motherboard problem.

Press DEL on startup and select "last best known config that worked" If that doesn't work you have probably corrupted the Win registry. Will need to take back to store, beware that if its a software fault you will have to pay and may lose all your data n the HDD!!!

Dell Dimension freezes at startup

Try disconnecting the data cable from the hard drive, then see if you can boot to the Resource CD. If you can, there is a good possibility the Hard Drive is bad.

If no difference, then try disconnecting everything but video, see if the system will boot past the Splash screen. SOmetimes periferal items cause issues
