Try removing the driver for the wireless adapter, reboot, and reinstall the driver. Most times this will solve wireless connectivity issues

Can,t remember router password tried to set up a visiter computer for wireless but password would not work

You can do a hard reset by plugging it in, locating the small hole on the bottom or side with possiblitly the words reset next to it. Insert a pin for about 10-20 seconds and the device should revert to the default settings.

You can then set up a SSID and password.

Just stopped working. all lights light up - but

you did not post model, you did not post what operating system on your computer either. general help therefore only can be provided. if you post required data, then i can provide more detailed instructions how to check your router.

disconnect all cables from the router, including power cable, wait about 20sec then insert cable connecting to the computer, insert cabel connecting your telephone line and then insert power cable.

in about 2min router should connect itself to the line and to the computer.

check if you have valid ip address on your computer (in most linksys routers it will look someting like: 192.168.1.***), that will meant that router did establish connection with computer. check if you can connect to the internet (through the cable!), if you can, this meant that your router is working correctly, so is your computer. disconnect cable and check if you can connect via wireless, if yes, problem is solved, if you cannot, check and compare settings between your computer and router, problem ususally is wrong credentials on the computer or wrong protocol. both of these must be same on the router and on the computer.

if you use wep, wep must be in both, on router and on the computer, if you use network name johnny, exactly this same spelling in router and computer must follow, same with password. and do not use spaces in passwords! especially if you use password on every login...

My wireless modem is not working

3.Configure your wireless router
Using the network cable that came with your wireless router, you should temporarily connect your computer to one of the open network ports on your wireless router (any port that isn't labeled Internet, WAN, or WLAN). If you need to, turn your computer on. It should automatically connect to your router.
Next, open Internet Explorer and type in the address to configure your router.
You might be prompted for a password. The address and password you use will vary depending on what type of router you have, so refer to the instructions included with your router.
As a quick reference, this table shows the default addresses, usernames, and passwords for some common router manufacturers.

Internet Explorer will show your router's configuration page. Most of the default settings should be fine, but you should configure three things:
  1. Your wireless network name, known as the SSID. This name identifies your network. You should choose something unique that none of your neighbors will be using.
  2. Wireless encryption (WEP) or Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), which help protect your wireless network. For most routers, you will provide a passphrase that your router uses to generate several keys. Make sure your passphrase is unique and long (you don't need to memorize it).
  3. Your administrative password, which controls your wireless network. Just like any other password, it should not be a word that you can find in the dictionary, and it should be a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols. Be sure you can remember this password, because you'll need it if you ever have to change your router's settings.
The exact steps you follow to configure these settings will vary depending on the type of router you have. After each configuration setting, be sure to click Save Settings, Apply, or OK to save your changes.
Now, you should disconnect the network cable from your computer.
4. Connect your computers to the wireless network If your computer does not have wireless network support built in, plug your network adapter into your USB port, and place the antenna on top of your computer (in the case of a desktop computer), or insert the network adapter into an empty PC card slot (in the case of a laptop). Windows will automatically detect the new adapter, and may prompt you to insert the CD that came with your adapter. The on-screen instructions will guide you through the configuration process.

HI,

It seems to be an issue with the security software on your computer. Disable antivirus and firewalls on the computer and then retry the installation.

Not able to install the software, tells me mdm.exe has stopped working and won't go any farther

Manual Setup: This option is best if you cannot use the wizard on the CD, are replacing an
existing router, or are technically knowledgeable. Follow the instructions in this manual to set
up your router.

Connecting Your Router
1. Connect the router, the computer, and the modem.
a. Turn off your computer.
b. Turn off and unplug the cable or ADSL broadband modem.
c. Locate the Ethernet cable (1) that connects your computer to the modem.
d. Disconnect the cable at the modem end only (2).
e. Securely insert the free end of the cable (1) into a LAN port on the router, such as LAN
port 4 (3).

f. Securely insert the yellow cable (5) that came with your router into the yellow Internet
port of the router (4) and the other end into the modem (2).

Setting Up Your Router for Internet Access
To access the router using its login name and password, follow these instructions.
1. Connect to the router by typing http://www.routerlogin.net in the address field of your
browser, then click Enter.

For security reasons, the router has its own user name and password. When prompted, enter
admin for the router user name and password for the router password, both in lower case
letters.

Enter the user name and password. The router will display its home page.

When the router is connected to the Internet, click the Knowledge Base or the Documentation link
under the Web Support menu to view support information or the documentation for the router.
If you do not click Logout, the router will wait 5 minutes after there is no activity before it
automatically logs you out.
Set Up and Test Basic Wireless Connectivity
Follow the instructions below to set up and test basic wireless connectivity. Once you have
established basic wireless connectivity, you can enable security settings appropriate to your needs.
1. Log in to the router at its default LAN address of http://www.routerlogin.net with its default
user name of admin and default password of password, or using whatever LAN address and
password you have set up.
2. Click the Wireless Settings link in the main menu of the router.
3. Note that the default SSID is NETGEAR.
4. Set the Region. Select the region in which the wireless interface will operate.
5. Click Apply to save your changes.
6. Configure and test your computers for wireless connectivity.
Program the wireless adapter of your computers to have the same wireless network name
(SSID) as the router. Check that they have a wireless link and are able to obtain an IP address
by DHCP from the router.
Note:

I have a wireless notebook adapter for my dell lattitude c400

Make sure that you insert the card in before booting up the computer. When Windows 2000 was created PCMCIA cards weren't hot swappable. If that doesn't do the trick, check linksys.com for updated Windows 2000 dirvers.

You can still update to Windows XP as well. Some computer stores still carry it. Wireless networking is managed much better under that operating system.

Insertion of dwl airplus g650 caused total freeze

Hi,

I wonder if you had your problems resolved? I have a similar situation with a Trendnet wireless PCI card, TEW-443PI. It was a brand new card I purchased on-line. The card had locked up my computer whenever it was inserted and when it was removed, my computer was back to working fine. If you had your issues resolved, please share it with me since I still have the same lock-up problem with the thing inserted into a PCI slot.

Thank you in advance,
