Question about Dyson DC18 all floors Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
My DC18 has suction when it is unlatched like to do floors with the roller attachment. However when I lock it upright to use the hose it loses suction totally. I have cleaned the filter as well as removed the hose for obstructions. When latched upright it makes a totally different noise than when unlatched. After a few seconds in the upright position it makes a noise that I can only describe as if you were to put your hand over the hose when it was working properly.
I am sorry to hear you are having difficulty with your DC18. I understand you have checked for obstructions, however, the problem you are describing sounds like a blockage. Please click on the appropriate link below to view step by step instructions on how to locate and remove a blockage in the wand, hose and the hose inlet. If you prefer we would also be happy to walk you through these checks over the phone. If the problem persists after the recommended trouble shooting steps have been carried out, please call us directly as your machine may need to be serviced by an authorized Dyson technician.

It's probably your belt. It could be broken or stretched. If broken or stretched, the roller won't spin very well, if at all. Another possibility is that there may be debris blocking suction near the roller. Hope this helps.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.
Check that the brush control dial is in the centre position when upright and then moves forward when the head is released. If the brush bar is still not spinning when switched on in the vacuuming position, check the base for blockages and remove any threads or hairs from the brush bar as outlined in your user guide or on our website.
If you are still having difficulties, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).
