I replaced convergence IC's and got smoke from this cap, need a part number

Since I cannot really tell what the part is, it has a location number printed on the board driectly under or next to it.

ok.. got the location info. It also says high voltage on the other side. location is RH17. Also some resistors looked a little discolored, their location codes are RK42, RK46, and RK54. Could they have caused the hv cap to blow or should I be looking at something else?

Bear with me here, I think you are going to have to search for a schematic, I have about 200 Hitachi on disc and this model is not one of them. That will allow if you have the schematic instant id of the parts and where in the circuit, RH17 I have never seen bad, the location suggests not a cap but maybe a coil encased---I am going to make some individual suggestions.

If the RK resistors are bad (any discoloration) you are going to have to assume either the new chips are now bad or a short exists there. What I would do is remove both chips and clean the bottom of the board with denatured alcohol where they solder in. You can without the schematic Google the chip number with "pin out" which will give you a id on what each pin is, at least 2 on each chip will be ground, with chips removed read from the ground to all other pins looking for a short, compare one chip pinwise to the other(the foil on the board). What can and does also happen is too much heat when soldering will lift a foil trace and put against another foil trace--a short. Follow me?

The chips are numbered pin wise left to right from 1-18. It is possible also with them removed to with a ohm meter compare all pins on them to for a short---the ground pins may read shorted to each other which should if the case be the same on both chips. As far as the RH17 we would have to clear the short first, check for a short across it, if a choke or coil it will read shorted even if good. If the short is found and cleared the next decision is to replace the new chips or not but I would change them out, Suburban Electronics has them for about 12 dollars a pair. Search first with google and the model number for "service manual" I answer a lot of questions here but if you cannot locate one let me know and I will look. You have to assume a short now exists and try first to find and remove that.

I did find a service manual, but could not locate a skematic. The service manual did not have parts for location codes. It did tell me how to disconnect the high power lines running to the board so that I could fully remove the board from the tv and take better pictures. I cleaned the component at RH17 and took a better picture. Can I test for shorts to ground with the ic's installed?

couldn't find the schematic either :)

I see in the photo the high voltage adjust control and down at the bottom a burnt resistor? Do me a favor, somewhere inside the set is a label with the "chassis number" DP17 etc, get that here, I will look on the disc I have with 200 hitachi schematics to see if any use the same chassis or close., no hurry as tomorrow I will get the disc that is stored in the basement here, current temperature here is about 12 degrees F so with a 1000 square foot basment I keep things there as is always warm from the heater. The area this is in (photo) suggests a short in the High voltage circuit. I will continue to help as I try to help people .

The chassis number is DP23K. The board is DP2X Defelction PWB.

First unplug the unit until problem is found---I would look inside for burnt parts like resistors in the convergence circuit which is the most common issue this set has.

They may be discolored or brown in the middle and not actually charred.

Locate what burned and you will locate the area where the problem is, many resistors in that area are protection, if a short they destroy themselves very quickly ....

If you were having any issue before or at the point it started smoking where picture looked odd or even 3d it will be in the convergence circuit.

Not exact but something like this--the two black chips and resistors in front of them.

I appologize for my newbieness to this forum.I don't expect it to post as quickly as it does and it didn't let me edit my first post.
I replaced the convergence IC's and it would's power back on so I figured it was a soldering error and fixed my soldering, I powered on the tv and got snow sound because no ant hooked up a few seconds later it started smoking from what I think is a cap and it won't power on now
here is a pic of the blown cap, need a part number

More info would be nice. Are you using HDMI or Component cables. If it is component cables (red, blue, green for video white and red for audio) Check your red and blue connection. Green alone will give you a black and white picture.
If you are using an HDMI cable, replace the cable to see if this changes anything or if you have another tv swap cables to see if problem stays with tv or moves to another tv.

It is my understanding that the 46F500 HD Ready only goes to 1080i and for Blu Ray you need 1080p. There are no ports for this format.
