42PF9630/42PF5321 Power Light-No A/V

There is athe power light on the set but no A/V.I had gotten advise from fixya that the power supply was bad on this set. I found a new PS and replaced it. It ran fine for less than 24 hours. Something else is causing this failure. Any ideas? Thanks

No, the power light(green) remains steady. When the problem reoccured the a/v came up briefly and went out. After I repowered the set I could hear the PS click but still no a/v. Thanks

  • jayess60 Jan 13, 2009

The green power light remains steady (no flashing).

  • jayess60 Jan 13, 2009

I purchased a service manual which told me how to access the helpdesk mode. The only error code that came up was 04. When I went into this mode the a/v came up temporarily and then went back off as if there was a thermal issue.

This TV (Phillips 42PF5321D/37), stopped displaying video and audio. It has just a steady green power light with NO flashing lights. I had posted the problem a couple of weeks ago and was advised that the PS was faulty. I found and replaced the PS, which worked for 3-4 hours until I shut the TV off. As soon as I powered on the set this morning it ran for 1 minute and lost a/v. After I posted the problem again this morning I received a terse answer that I should have gotten a service manual to troubleshoot the problem. I thought that was why I came to you guy's in the first place. Anyway, after buying the manual and reading about the helpdesk option I got the tv up long enough to get an error code of 04. The tv again went off after 5 minutes or so. I don't know how to interpet the error code. THX

ONE: Try a hard reset. This will correct any software code if it got corrupted in some way. Merely unplug the power cord for 4 hours or more. Then power it up again. If the reset does not cure the problem it means there is a hardware failure of some kind. Probably within the controller IC (Integrated Circuit) which controls all the user functions.

TWO: If the hard reset does not correct the problem you could use external speakers. Using the headphone as an audio output it can be fed to an external amlifier/speaker. You can purchase stereo speakers with subwoofer (they are commonly used for personal computers) for $19 and up. They will just plug in simply to the tv and will give adequate sound quality. Maybe better than the original sound.

THREE: If you call in a service tech it will cost at least $100 or more.

Hi
On the CRT circuit board(picture tube), you will find R3340, which is a 10 ohm 1/3w resistor. The location of the resistor is printed on the bottom of the ckt board. It is burned open, replace with a 10 ohm 1/2w resistor. This will solve your problem. The original resistor was sized too small, should have been a 1/2 watt. This resistor is mounted standing up on ends. Mount the replacement resistor the same way. You can probably get the resistor at your local Radio Shack. You will probably have to buy a package of 5, but what the hey . . . they are cheap.
Be careful and don't get the circuit trace too hot and damage the circuit trace. (it's very small)
Good luck.

The most likely cause of this problem is a bad lamp.  Replace the lamp and all should be well again.  In fact, you will be amazed at how much brighter the picture is after the lamp has been replaced.

The converter have failed, or there is a problem with converter wiring/connector. also test backlight system.

The inverter must be tested, and eventually replaced.

On australian models four blink is PSU fault on 5V.

If you are in US is backlight fault

Since you feel comfortable using the service menu you may want to go and clear the error, and watch for it to happen again. Use the Reset Error Buffer menu item to clear it.

I read somewhere on the Philips site that some TV shutdown issues can be caused by electrostatic charge buildup? And that could be remedied by unplugging the TV for 10 minutes from time to time.

Make sure your thumb drive is formatted in FAT only. Not FAT16 or FAT32. That should get it going.

It's either FAT16 or FAT32, and your USB thumb drive must be FAT32 formated to work.

Put your thumbdrive in a computer, and click on "My Computer" icon. You should see your thumbdrive. Right click on the thumbdrive icon and select Properties. It should say File System: FAT32. If it says anything else, then it will NOT work.

Remember that you have to unzip the firmware file you downloaded from the internet, and then copy the unzipped file to the USB drive. It will NOT work if you don't unzip the file first

If you have no blinking code you need to buy the service manual and follow the troubleshooting diagrams to find out what is the defective component that is blowing the PSU.

Before replacement the old PSU should have been tested.

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement.

Backlight Inverter Repalced still not working

dim the lights in the room, turn on the set, and shine a bright flash light on the screen. Do you see a faint picture? Also be advised that there are a lot of bad parts floating around on EBay. No backlight condition could be cause by a bad main board, power supply, inverter board, high voltage short on the inverter output, or a bad backlight bulb.

Good day to mam wendy311!!!!

If you TV is totally dead set and no red light or green light on the front...

if that so the problem could be cause of dead set power power supply board...

You have 3 choices its either repair it on your own or took it to the technician or buy a new set of power supply board..

But for me I suggest to buy a new power supply board because if you took it to the technician cost of repair is almost or higher depends on the bad parts than the new power supply board...

But before you buy a new PSU please check this simple and common parts that usually cause of dead power supply board..
  1. Transistor----Check if shorted
  2. Capacitors----Check if bulged or leak.
  3. Resistors----Check if open or change value..
  4. Fuses---------Check if busted..

I hope this solution will be helpful..

Thanks for using fixya...

My LG tv 42' has no picture

Hello, Welcome to Fixya.com Expert community.

Allow me to TRY and help you.

First off your tv should be unplugged from the wall outlet for more then 1 min to allow everything inside RESET! Then plug it back in.

If that doe not work chances are being a LCD screen you back light on that is not functioning this can be caused by one or two issues:

1. Bad back light
2. Bad back light inverter

You could also have a failing power supply as well. since the power supply is connected to the inverters to provide low level electric power to the back light it could be your failure as well.

Your looking at a ball par tof $150- $200 for a tech to fix this. However if you did it yourself you can save huge $$ on a repair bill.

Before you open your TV make sure you did step one in this solution. That is unplug it from the outlet and allow it to set for a min or two.

Also before you open this unit you agree you will not HARM Fixya, ME or any others with lawsuits arising out of your own doing.

You will need:

1. A screw driver (phillips)
2. Your eye's
3. Parts
4. some soldering skill if needed.

Here is a Youtube video of me fixing a LCD monitor basically a TV without a tuner or speakers but does not fit the class of a TV. I found there where 3 bad electrolytic capacitors causing the monitor button to blink and no power to the screen.

(do not delete) utube.png
Your issue might not be in the power supply! But check it out first you will be surprised.

Your issue fails in the category of bad inverter or backlight/ or bad power supply. I am not there so I cannot see inside the TV, Keep that in mind when you are rating your solution.

Thanks for using Fixya.com

Hi, I have a 37lc46 LG LCD which takes ages to start. When I press the power button the standby light goes off for about an hour, when it comes back on again I have to continue pressing the remote power...

Replacement power supply is used?
You need to verify the DC output voltages of the power supply first and make sure this power supply has no bad caps with leaking/bulging tops. It goes into standby can also be that it detects fault some where in the set.

The TV will not turn on. No power light

Check the power supply; look for bad caps with leaking/bulging tops, check to see if you have standby +5vdc at the power supply connector, the front red indicator will not be on if you do not have this +5vdc standby voltage due to shorted out Q7 and ZD4.
