The battery continues to charge if the computer is off. The computer probably won't turn on because the battery is so low. It might not be charging because the power cord might not be plugged into a wall plug that is on. The plug might be on a switch. Find a plug that you know for sure that is on then plug it in there and try again.

Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall. ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced.

Okay two things could be going on.First of course is are you trying to boot from batteries? If so try booting from the a/c supply.Ok saying this you still may have a problem with your a/c supply.First look at the connector on your laptop.Be sure the center pin(pins) are not damaged or missing. Most owners ruin the a/c laptop connector either by kicking the cord or dropping it with it plugged up.Make sure the plug on the laptop is not loose or has been pushed in.Most owner will cause that by dropping the laptp on the plug. Now check the plug on the line from your adapter than plugs into the wall.Make sure all pins and cable look good.If you know how you can check the plug to see if you have power out of it.If not replace the adapter. My experenice tells me it is one of those. If in doubt take it to office depot staples ect... and some can check that for you surly for no cost.Laptops do not just die like that. Hope this helps

Yes, theres a big possibility that the Start Button got shorted out since it happens when the laptop is on. I suggest calling the Customer Service of your laptop manufacturer or the Store where you bought it to see what you can do since this is a new Laptop and for warranty purposes.

Hope this information will be helpful. Thank you for using Fixya.

I bought new universal adapter for asus laptop and it charges batery just when laptop is turned off

Problem description: The battery charges only when the laptop turned off. The battery charge LED lights up as normal and the battery gets charged to 100% while the laptop is off.
When the laptop is turned on, the battery charge LED goes off even if the adapter is still plugged in.
Possible cause: 1. AC power adapter failure.
2. Battery failure.
3. Broken/loose power jack.
4. Motherboard failure.
Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution: 1. This problem could be related to a faulty AC power adapter. It's possible that the AC adapter doesn't provide enough power when plugged into the laptop. To find out if this is your problem, you'll have to test the laptop with another working adapter.Replace the adapter if needed.
2. There is a slight chance that you have bad battery. Test the laptop with a know good battery and replace the faulty one if needed.
3. The battery charge problem could be related to the power jack. Maybe the jack is broken or not making good contact with the motherboard. It is necessary to remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. Resolder or replace the jack if needed.
4. If the power jack is in a good working shape and new power adapter with battery do not fix the problem, most likely you have a faulty motherboard. Replace the motherboard if needed.

Laptop battery is not charging

Hi, this information represents a basic troubleshooting guideline. Refer to your user guide for specific charging and connection instructions. Manuals may be available online in the Support Web site of HP.

Remove the battery from the computer.
Confirm the battery contacts are free of any foreign material that may prevent charging.
Reinsert the battery into the computer.
Verify that the AC adapter cord is properly connected and plugged directly into a known working AC power outlet.

NOTE: If the battery charges correctly when the AC adapter is plugged directly into an AC power outlet, but not when plugged into a power strip or surge protector, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the computer battery or AC adapter.

Verify the correct AC adapter is being used.
Ensure the AC adapter box power light is on. This will be an illuminated green light.
If the AC adapter power light is not on, the AC adapter and power cord will need to be replaced.
Verify the charging indicator is illuminated on the computer.
If the issue still exists, install a different compatible HP battery, if available.

NOTE: If a replacement battery charges and operates correctly, the problem is with the first battery.

If neither the original nor a replacement battery charges, service may be required for the computer.

Hello,

I would check to make sure the AC adaptor connection on the motherboard was not damaged when you opened the pc. ( I have done that a few times.) I'm uncertain of what you have done to solve the problem. Since you have the new battery, again try to charge the battery. when it show the charge is complete, let the pc run until it goes off, when it does, keep powering your pc on until it will no longer power on. (You want to make sure the battery is completely drainned.) Once complete, try plugging the AC to your pc and monitor the charge. You may need to let the pc charge for at least 2 hours before powering the pc on.

Good Luck

Unfortunately, you cannot replace just that one part. It is part of the motherboard. You'd have to replace the motherboard or get a new laptop. Sorry.
