Question about Lands Phones

Open Question

Is the Motororola telephone Type 7400X usable in 2009?

My pensioner friend has difficulty using modern phones but is confident handling the more bulky/stable frame of his Motorola 7400X, serial no. 6622UE8719 which he used before retirement.
Can this model be used on, or adapted for use on modern netwoks?

SOURCE: Two phones in use with Motorola VT1005 result in very low volume

disconnect the POTS line incoming to your home on the outside of your house. This will make the phone wiring within the house a standalone network. Plug the Line 1 jack of your TA into any available phone jack and the remaining jacks in the house will be energized. This will create the same environment as you had with POTS.

Handset doesn't have dial tone. says check TEL line.

For this type of problem, you need to isolate the issue. It could be the phone, the inside wiring, or the outside wiring. I like to use an old rotary phone for testing but any basic corded phone should work. Get a new RJ-11 phone cable as well.

Unplug the base unit and plug in the test phone to that jack. Check if you get a dial tone. (Try a new cable if the initial one doesn't work.) If your test phone has a dial tone, then the problem is isolated to the cordless phone. (If the test phone works with the new cable, do check if Uniden works with that cable.) Modern phones are not designed to be fixed by the consumer. If the phone is under warranty, contact Uniden Customer Service. (Otherwise decide if the costs are worthwhile for you; there will be a significant delay before the phone is returned/replaced.)

If you do not get the dial tone, you need to track down the wiring issue. Next move to another jack on the phone line and check if there is a dial tone on your test phone. If there is a dial tone, you have isolated the problem to the jack or the wiring to the jack.

If there is still no dial tone, find where your telephone service comes in to your building. If you can, open the box. Determine the type of connection used there. If you are lucky, you will find a RJ-11 jack for your phone line. Plug in your test phone and check for a dial tone. If there is no dial tone, contact your telephone provider. They will fix this outside problem for free.

If the connection is not a RJ-11 jack, you will need to call the telephone company so that they can determine if the problem is inside or outside.

If you do have a dial tone, then the problem is with the inside wiring. Inspect the visible wires for damage. Open the faceplates for the jacks and check for loose wires. There are two types of connectors. Screw type connectors need the wire stripped back a little then wrap around the screw and tighten. The other type is a punchdown jack. To repair a loose wire in this, you will need a punchdown tool. These are often available in hardware/home improvement stores in the wiring section. has clear pictures of the wire color to pin pattern.

You may want a professional to check the wires inside the walls. Your telephone provider will do this for a fee.

I hope this helps.

We have a samsung std 24b phones in our office and we can not reset the time on our phones. Please help us!

Although I'm fairly confident about this answer, I'm not 100% certain. Looking at the manual, these look like phones that either have a server they report to and get their time from or set their clock automatically themselves using NTP or the like.

This is a link to the PDF manual:,,&target=productDoc&idDeviceType=3401&idMfg=1580&idProduct=341492

I'm trying to install a rotary phone, but it doesn't have a jack like modern phones do. It has three wires with little crescent shaped metal things on the ends. Please help!

if they are red-green-yellow then just isolate your yellow wire and spade and open up phone junction box and connect the red/green wires to the red/green wires on phone jack terminals you can hook either way this type of phone isn't polarity sensitive, then make sure all other phones on this line work properly after install

What amperage is needed for 9V AC adapter for AT&T telephone model number 972?

Anything that's 1 amp or more. Just have to meet minimun amperage which on a modern digital phone ,is'nt likely to be more than 1 amp. You can also use more tan 1 amp, because the phone won't use more amps than it needs. (Ohms Law).

I am on the pension and have a mobile phone bill over 4hundred dollars due on sept 22.

Most importantly, ring the phone company and tell them you will have difficulty paying it all at once and need to pay it off at an agreed amount. You must pay the bill !!

Only use the mobile phone in emergencies.
Use the landline.
Cancel the plan (providing you are outside of your contract period).
Use prepaid.
This may sound harsh but worst case get rid the mobile phone you obviously cannot afford to use it the way you do.
