Your motherboard is equipped with an AGP slot, you would want to use this to add a video card, but first you must go into the BIOS and disable the on board video graphics chip so you can utilize an external video card. This will make your pc faster because of the independent processes and memory the card will have on its own, not needing the pc's memory to run, thus taking away from system resources. SOURCE: No sound from ASUS P5VDC-MX
If everything is OK in Device Manager, check Audio in Sound and Audio Devices under Control Panel. The Sound playback should default to Device Manager device.
Plus, make Volume Controls are not muted.
Last, simply check with headphones.
