If you press the setup key then 1 under FSE it will say TAB (0-9)? enter the amount of decimal places you want and it will change that for you.

If, for example, you're getting the square root of 3 as the square root of 3, press the S-D button (just above the DEL) button to convert the symbolic result to a decimal result.

If you want all results to come up in decimal, press SHIFT SETUP 2 to select the LineIO mode.

When the radicand is completed, use the right arrow to leave the root so that you can enter the other factors or terms.

Yes, your Ti 86 should solve square root problems. At the HOME screen press [CLEAR] [2nd] [x^2] which gives the (Square Root Symbol) to display at the Home screen. Then enter the number you want the square root of and close the bracket [ ) ] and, press the [ENTER] key.

You can even get the square root of complex numbers too. Select the correct complex format in the mode settings. For example: I'll do one in the rectangular form by enter a number as (a, b). I then will go to [2nd] [MODE] then [Arrow down] 3 times and make sure the RectC is highlighted and selected. Then quit out of the mode settings screen and enter [CLEAR] [2nd] [x^2] [ ( ] [9] [ , ] [ - ] [4] [ ) ] [ ) ] [ENTER], this displays the SQRT((9,-4)) equals (3, 2); The real part is 3 and the imaginary part 2.

1/X is the number dividied by x ie 1/2

x2 is the number times itself (squared) 2x2

what checkmark X sounds like is actually the square root of the number ie sqrt of 9 is 3

Use the key that is 3 keys below the ALPHA button. You must press that key, then place the number or equation you are trying to get the square root of.

Come on now....there are dedicated "square" and "square root" keys on the TI-30XA....

Enter your number e.g. 4, then press the "root x" key to get 2...

Press "x squared" key to get the square of 2 = 4

There's the even more useful "y to the power x" key and it's inverse "xth root of y" key.

E.g. Enter 2, then press the "y to the power x" key, then 5, then =, answer is 32 (2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2). Starting with 32, pres 2nd then the "y to the power x" key, then 5, then =, answer is 2, the 5th root of 32....

The parenthesis is there so u can put a number under the radicle. Just close the parenththesis once u put the number under the radicle
