Door locked while it was open

It appears that the "Clean Oven" button was pushed while the door was open. The door will no close now because the latch has engaged. The oven light stays on and nothing works because the oven door does not close...it hits the engaged latch

Thanks Jimbo. I actually tried something similar to this last night. I shut the breaker off to the range, but not for a couple of minutes...maybe just for 30 seconds or so. I'll try again tonight and keep my fingers crossed.

  • joycepetraus Jan 16, 2009

Unfortunatly, the first solution of turning off the breaker did not work. I had the breaker off for well over 30 minutes but the door remains locked while open.

  • joycepetraus Jan 21, 2009

Thank you so much. This suggestion worked. I left the breaker off for 24 hours, when I turned it back on, I pressed the "stop" button while manually pushing the lock lever and the door became unlocked. Again, thanks for your help.

If there is a switch to turn the light off which the door would normally press, use your finger to press and hold it and the lock should reset itself

good luck

To reset the appliance you need to start tripping circuit breaker, as already suggested, but for at least 10 or 15 minutes.
This will drain power completely and reset circuits.
If the oven ios also hot you need to wait for the oven to cool down completely.

As you started self cleaning with door opened now the door latch may still stay engaged, after doing the above.

In this case you need to activate manually the door switch, unlocking it by pressing and holding it with your finger while you cancel the cycle, or advance the timer control to the end of cycle.

If that still does not work, a technician must energise the door latch solenoid to unlock it.

Start leaving the oven unplugged for longer.

One or both of the hinges could be bad. There is a way you can check this.
First put the door in the broil position and then lift
and remove the oven door.
Then carefully with a pair of pliers grab the hinge
and move it forward towards the range body.
In most ranges the hinge should actually be able to
rest up against the body (or frame) of the range itself.
Do this with both hinges and see if they rest up against
the range. If one of them doesn’t then it will need replaced.

Take care if you do this because there is a
good deal of spring tension in these hinges. Make sure
you use something to grab on to them such as a pair of pliers.

I have a Kenmore Range Model 95012102. After canceling the self cleaning oven process the code E1-F5 appeared on the display panel and the oven remains locked.

Hello,

The F5-E1 error code means that one of the switches on the door latch hasn't fully set itself to the door open(non clean) mode. One thing to try is to open the oven door and push the light switch in by hand while pushing the clean button on the control and see if the latch will open just a little more thusly the switch will open a bit more into the normal mode.

If by pushing the clean button...waiting 5 minutes (whith the door open)then push cancel and see if the latch fully opens..the door latch switch would need to be replaced.

The part number for the latch asm. which includes the switch is W10107820

Hi,

If you've interrupted the clean cycle or have accidentally set the clean cycle with the oven door open, the latch may have engaged and now the door can't be closed because it will hit the latch. There may be a door activated switch on the front face of the oven. In this case you may need to manually press that door switch with your finger while at the same time canceling the clean cycle to get the latch to retract so the door can close fully again.

. If you can push the latch in manually, press the clear button while the button is pressed in. If that doesn't clear it:

Try disconnecting the power at the breaker to reset any electronics that might be at fault. (Make sure there are no little graphics of a lock that appear on your screen. If there are and you can't find the source, the shut down should help.

There is sometimes a separate switch aside from the light switch the is on the front of the stove front or very close to the latch itself. Considering that the oven clean will work, if there is one, it appears that is working in the in position. Look around the latch and the front of the oven for any other switches. Clean it if you find a separate control so that it can pop back out when the door is open.

hold in the door button and push broil until the latch makes a 360 degree
then the door lock should stop flashing and the oven will work again .

Hold the lock button for 3-5 seconds..
if the door was open but the lock are latched. Holding the Clear/Off button had no effect. We unplugged the unit. Then while one person held the oven door light switch button in, another person plugged the unit in. While still holding the light switch button in, the Clear/Off button pressed for 10-15 seconds, at which point "locked" appears in the display. Then, while still holding the light switch button in, pressing and holding the Clear/Off button unlock the unit.
if still the same problem the door assembly is cracked and that needs replacement.you can get required parts

How do I set the oven to self clean

The oven door must be closed and all controls set correctly for the cycle to work properly. After a Clean Cycle You may notice some white ash in the oven. Wipe it up with a damp cloth after the oven cools. If white spots remain, remove them with a soap- filled scouring pad and rinse thoroughly with a vinegar and water mixture. These deposits are usually a salt residue that cannot be removed by the clean cycle. If the oven is not clean after one clean cycle, repeat the cycle.
You cannot set the oven for cooking until
the oven is cool enough for the door to unlock.
While the oven is self-cleaning, you can
touch the TIMER/CLOCK pad to display the time of day.
To return to the clean
countdown, touch the COOKING TIME pad.
If the shelves become hard to slide,
apply a small amount of vegetable oil or cooking oil to a paper towel and wipe the edges of the oven shelves with the paper towel.

Using the self-cleaning oven.

How to Delay the Start of Cleaning

Make sure the clock shows the correct time of day. If your model has a latch, latch the door. Touch the SELF CLEAN pad. Using the + or or the number pads, enter the desired clean time. Touch the DELAY START pad. The earliest start time you can set will appear in the display. Using the + or or the number pads, enter the time of day you want the clean cycle to start. Touch the START pad. On models without a door latch, the door locks automatically. The display will show the start time. It will not be possible to open the oven door until the temperature drops below the lock temperature and the LOCKED DOOR light goes off. The oven shuts off automatically when the clean cycle is complete. When the LOCKED DOOR light is off, slide the latch handle to the left as far as it will go and open the door. If your range does not have a latch, the door will unlock automatically. n The words LOCK DOOR will flash and the oven control will signal if you set the clean cycle and forget to close the oven door or forget to latch the door on models with a latch. n To stop a clean cycle, touch the CLEAR/OFF pad. When the LOCKED DOOR light goes off indicating the oven has cooled below the locking temperature, unlatch the door (on models with a latch) and open the door.

How do I clear error beeping (F9) on my Amana gas range

try to hold in on the oven light switch plunger that the door would hit if it was closed properly. what you probably did was to pull the door open while it was trying to lock. once you hold the plunger in, then hit the clean cycle again and then push to cancel button to get the door latch to unlock the door. it may take a minute or two but that should clear up the error code and let you use the oven again.
next time if you push the clean by mistake, just let it go and then when it says "locked" just push the cancel button. it will unlock and be ready to use.

I fixed the problem simply by pressing the clean button when the oven was warm, not cold.
For some reason not explained in the instruction manual, the oven door safety locked properly and automatically when the oven was warm. I don't know why, but I'll take it!!

Oven door won't unlock

I had the same problem on my Kenmore Electric Range. Door would not unlock. Tried pressing "Off" for multiple seconds, but still would not unlock. No error codes. Clock was displaying normally. Finally decided to try running it thru the self cleaning operation to get it to cycle thru locking and unlocking the door. When I started self clean, the door automatically went thru the auto lock and "locked" appeared in the display. I then hit "Off" to clear it and stop the cleaning cycle. The door then unlocked as normal!

Oven door won't unlock

I fixed the automatic oven door lock on my oven. While the door was open, I pushed the button on the upper left hand side a couple of times (the one that senses when the door is closed.) Then I was going to call the repairman when the door closed! I had to run the self clean cycle again to get the lock light to go off, but it worked!
