Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

Open Question

Just purchased an Office Max 16-sheet Micro-Cut Shredder, plugged it in and Bin Full Door Open indicator light came on. Also, GoECO Power Saving Switch does not work. Please help!!

There is absolutely no power in this unit. I just purchased it about 4 hours ago. I'm very disappointed as I really researched shredders and this one was rated very good by consumers.

SOURCE: office max paper shredder switch

If you are referring to the paper feed sensor switch in the paper throat it sounds like the pc board or switch itself may be bad. I could troubleshoot a little better if I actually had you on the phone. A Customer Service Rep can help you at 1-800-945-4545.

SOURCE: Office max shredder om96431

For me, the problem was the sensor connections. I took the unit apart (7 phillips screws, I'm not sure why I didn't have to remove the 8th.) Then I took the paper sensor unit off (2 more phillips screws.) Then I removed the little black box that both sensor wires are connected to (1 more phillips screw.) Then I pried that box open with a flat head screwdrive. Some parts fell out. I put it all back together and it worked.

If you don't want to mess with it, just remove the two wires and tie them together. The unit will always be on when turned on to Auto, but that's better than not working.

SOURCE: DM15C stops after 4 seconds, open bin light comes on

I lived with the problem for 6+ Months -- drove me NUTS -- Today, I called Fellows -- Spoke to "JoAnn"... She said this works 80% of the time...
Pull out the bin -- put your foot inside to hold the shredder down -- pull up on the top of the shredder -- you WILL hear a POP as the plastic top disengages from the bottom but TRUST ME THIS IS OK! -- take off this top section (which houses the blades) -- flip it over -- you will see 6 screws total but it is the sets of 2 screws close together to focus on -- right next to the screws you will see a tiny glass sensor -- use a q-tip and alcohol to give them a wipe -- press the top back on -- bin back in -- you are DONE -- This took me less than 1 minute and it works as it did the day I got it! Go shred something!  :)

SOURCE: SHREDDER INDICATOR KEEPS COMING ON WHILE SHREDDING

look for two LED lights where paper falls into bin and wipe them off, but the sensors could be faulty as well. I have seen both.

My shredder is showing the bin is full when it is empty - how to I fix it?

Depending on the shredder model, there is a sensor of some kind telling it that it is full. The two possible solutions are to unplug it and plug it back in, and to try to find the sensor and do what needs to be done to make it not active.

My shredder is not working does it have a fuse somewhere

The shredder may be so clogged, with plastic for example, that the motor overheated and went into thermal shutdown. It also is possible that the input sensor is blocked. My experience with shredders that have been used to shred any type of plastic or plastic coated paper is that they are a complete mess inside.

Bin full door open

I found the nylon "bin full" flapper in the center of the head of the shredder is supposed to trip a microswitch indicating bin full. I removed the flapper and tapped on the switch. It came loose with a puff of paper dust. I replaced the flapper and it's back to good as new. Seems the dust built up around the switch and it was stuck.

Omnitech shredder ot-nxc18pa won't power up

Dear Bruce,
Here is some generic information about shredders that may help you.
Most of the shredders have a micro switch that senses if the paper has been introduced to the shredding slot.
These micro switches are activated by a little arm/leveler that touches the paper and activates de contact inside the shredder housing.
While disconnected from the power, try to check if the switch is working properly. Check if you can hear a "click noise" while moving it back and forth by using a paper clip. When this sensor arm is broken, the device will not operate since it does not detect the presence of a paper sheet to be shredded.
Make sure your power is on (not only connected to the wall - but check if there is any indicator in the shredder). If the arm is not broken and you still hear the click noise indicating the micro switch is being activated, then your problem could still be the power since there is not LED indicator in the panel of this device.
If this does not solve your investigation process, please make sure your power cord is fine. Otherwise, it would be an internal electric problem in the device.
One additional possibility (since I have no further details from you) is that the device is on, you can hear the motor running but the gears that move the shredder blades are broken (that has happened to my device).
I hope this gives you some light in further investigating your problem.
Good luck!
RC

Jammed shredder

If your Ativa shredder has a bin, you can gain access to the shredding mechanism by removing the bin and turning the shredder upside down. With power disconnected, be prepared to spend considerable time picking out bits and pieces of material. Tweezers and a utility knife are useful tools. Eventually your shredder will be back in working order.

Office max shredder, says bin full but its not, only half full

I had the same problem. I found that the sensor on the shredder is light sensitive. The viewing window in the bin was letting too much light in and was triggering the bin full light to turn on. I covered the window with a piece of paper and then restarted the shredder. It worked fine after that.
