Question about Whirlpool 25.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with In-Door-Ice Dispensing System
Your water control has two sides. One side is for the ice maker and other is the water disapenser. If the ice maker valve becomes mechanically defective the water valve can allow water to continue to flow or not flow at all. Replace the water control valve and I believe this will solve this porblem, Thanks Sea Breeze

SOURCE: water dispenser in fridge
Possible problems could a bad water valve (dual valve), bad micro switch which is activated by pressing the button for water to come out. On some models the bracket that holds the micro switch could be broken not allowing the button to activate.

the water tank is frozen ,,, remove the lower crispers in the refrig side and the tank is behind them ,,, use hair dryer to thaw the ice inside it while holding in on the water switch on the door with a glass under it to catch the water / larry

Look for obstruction at the drain tray for the freezer. Common to have plastic wrap sucked into that area.Or gunk in the drain line. Blow through line to insure the gunk is not an issue.

It may be just the water control valve on back of refrigerator. Put tap water in ice maker and lower lever for on. After ice is made, does it drop to tray? At this time when empty is the time the control valve is asked for water. The problem could be in valve on back or the inside ice maker itself. If you can try a few test with me I will help you locate the problem. Let me know what you find as I go through this with you. Sea Breeze
