I have a Soltek SL-K8AV2-R1L with one 160 gb sata harddisk (with XP on it), a 40 gb IDE harddisk on IDE channel 0, and two DVD/CD-drives on IDE channel 1. Tried to reinstall XP but XP setup did not...

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. The first thing you need to check is if the SATA Hard Disk is detected in Bios. In the system information you will see there the list of the drives including the DVD and the IDE hard drive. You can also check the Boot Sequence or Priority if it is there. Please let me know if you find the SATA hard disk on the list.

Thanks

It wont rocognise the hard disk but will pick up everything eslse

Change ide or sata cable.
Also change power cable of smps to harddisk.
Make sure your harddisk set as master with jumper settings.
Read jumper settings on harddisk then set harddisk as master.
Then check in bios.
Change ide or sata ports on motherbord then check.

BIOS cannot detect SATA harddisk

Most motherboards have multiple plug-ins for Sata drives. Try another plug in. This will typically solve this type of issue.

SATA's compatibility , motherboard update?

Hi k439,
Keep in mind that all serial ATA SATA hard disk drives are seen in the main bios menu as a Primary Master drive. When you load the bios you should see the SATA 320GB drive in the main menu, Standard CMOS Features. If you do not than the onboard SATA controller is defective. This can not be repaired. Only a motherboard replacement will fix this issue. You can go to MSI's web site below & allow MSI to check you're system for the latest bios upgrade. Follow their online instructions & update you're bios file but this will not fix you're onboard SATA controller. Click this link to MSI Live Update link: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=utility&maincat_no=1&prod_no=205

Sorry k439
