Question about HP DeskJet 5550 InkJet Printer
"Removed" printer icon from printer list, totally unplugged printer (power and USB cable), restarted computer, plugged in usb cable. Computer immediately detected the printer and loaded the correct software from Windows Vista. HP 5550 printer icon appeared but does not show "ready" under the icon. Right click on icon shows status as "Ready". Does not print test page. Help!

SOURCE: Printer will not print
Hi Check that the cable is fully into the printer also make sure that there are not any lights on the printer that are on. Within the printer icon right hand click on it and select properties. Once in there select the ports tab at the top of the window and check that the port that is selected is the correct one i.e. LPT1 or USB or which ever the printer is connected to.
Once you have check these try clearing the print que and print a test page from the properties window. If the printer prints ok then there is nothing wrong with the printer and make sure that within the program that you are using the correct printer if not change to the correct one by Ctrl: P and then at the top of the window it should state what printer is to be used.
Hope this works for you

Try universal printer drivers and i m sure it will work.
Try to download and install the drivers from the link mentioned below

Try removing all ports from your laptop, then reboot, and then create just one USB port. Also, go to your hardware devices and make sure your usb ports don't have any question marks or yellow warning symbols. Be sure first that the drivers for your USB ports are installed and working first. This sounds either a faulty USB cord, which does happen, or USB drivers issues in your laptop. The printer is probably not the problem here.
