Look up "darning" and it shows a feed dog cover so that means this machine does not have dropping feed dogs.

Now that that is out of the way... most machines have the ability to adjust the height of the feed dogs. But without seeing your machine I can't advise you. It might be better to go have the machine adjusted and serviced.

SOURCE: Feed Dog on Brother 270d stuck in up position

I finally figured this out. The feed dog switch in the back was not hitting anything when I moved it back and forth. There is a screw on the underside of the machine that I tightened. It seemed to do the trick. Thanks.

SOURCE: My kenmore 385 won't feed fabric

Check to see what pattern is selected. Be sure it isn't the buttonhole.Select straight stitch.Move the stitch length setting to 4.Turn the handwheel and see if the feed dogs move forward. Press the reverse lever and see if they move backwards. Select straight stretch stitch and turn the wheel to see if the feed dogs move forward and backward.Check the presser foot release on top of the machine and make sure there is pressure on the foot.
Sometimes the reverse assembly on this machine stops working because it has the wrong type of grease on it and it turns into a hard gummy mess that won't let it work.

This machine does not have a feed dog drop, but it does include a feed dog cover that covers them so you can do free motion. The cover is a little piece of black plastic that kind of resembles this: 3d18346.png

SOURCE: Brother XL-5130 machine...cannot get it to darn or

You probably do not have lever to put the feed dogs down. That's why you have a cover. To free style embroider or darn you don't need a foot but the presser foot has to be down and as you run the machine, YOU will be doing the stitching by moving your fabric back and forth. This is usually done with a wooden embroidery hoop so that your fabric stays taught. I have done it on jeans without a hoop. Hope this helps.

Take it back where you bought and have them show you how to do it. Or, see is you can tighten the needle plate yourself, If, you can't call Singer (1-800-4singer) and find out where the authorized service center is. You should not have to pay anything with it being new. Good luck

Feeder dogs will not advance the material

Are your dog feeds lowered perhaps? Check by turning the flywheel towards you with the pressure foot up and no fabric, can you see the feed dogs coming up above the needle plate? If this is happening, then check stitch length setting, should be 2.5 or 3 for a normal stitch.

If the feed dogs are not coming up, then they are either lowered, this is usually engaged/diseanged with a dial, slide or knob on the base of the machine, behind the free arm or sometimes inside the bobbin area. Reengage, then turn the machine through a couple of stitches as they don't just pop up again.

Can you tell me how to lower the feed dogs on my Brother XR-52 for free motion sewing?

You use your feed dog cover, it is a plastic cover you put over your feed dogs. Your manual will show you, if you do not have your manual go to www.brother-usa.com and select support, home sewing & embroidery group, then select your manual, you can then download your manual for free

Feed dogs stuck in down position

that the feed dog lever is in the up position. When the lever is in the down position, the feed dogs will show on the top if there is no pressure on them at all. Make sure that the machine makes one complete cycle to check this. Just throwing the switch does not make them come to the surface.

If this does not work, then the feed gear is broken and you will need to take it to a mechanic.

Feed dogs are down

You might have the machine on a setting that does not use the feed dog. Check your stitch setting and see if that helps.

Spring not connected behind bobbin casing

It is most likely the feed dog return spring. A cam lifts the feed dogs up and the spring pulls them back down. It hooks to the feed dogs bracket and goes straight down to the machine frame, there should be a small hook or post for it. You may be able to sew slowly without it attached.
good luck!
