You can change the keyboard layout to match the one you have.
In your start box, select run and type "intl.cpl" (without quotes).
Under the formats tab, change the format. try the ones with English (" ") and then click apply.
To see the format selected, open the On-screen keyboard ( type "osk.exe" in run) and hold shift to view the symbols.
Try different formats until you find something that matches the phisical keyboard layout.
If you're using windows go to the start menu, type character map in the search bar and open it. Click on the copyright symbol and you can see what your computers keyboard keystroke is at the bottom right. I think you can also double click the symbol and then click copy, then just paste it into your document (ctrl+v)
Change your keyboard settings to match your keyboard in Windows by opening the Regional & Language Options panel in the Control Panel. This is where you tell Windows you have an American English keyboard (for example) rather than an European variant.
There is a + key (same key as = key) on the keyboard. Try looking in the upper right area of the keyboard to the left of the backspace key. Press the shift button and the + button to type the + symbol.

1. Boot to diags, Fn+Power see if the issue occurs in the diagnostics, If it does, you need a keyboard at a minimum. If it works normally, then it is a software setting. 2. Boot to Safe Mode F8 at boot, see if it works normally there. If not then check the regional and language settings and make sure they match the keyboard you have installed (US, UK or French Canadian Keyboard?)
