Hi, This is na very common problem with these Dell machines. I have found one of two things are the cause of this.
1. Your memory warms up once system is on for a while and fails to make proper contact on all pins, focing system shut down (after which only a power disconnect will restart system).
Solution. Carefully remove memory moduls and wipe copper contacts gently with a damp cloth after which you can replace the modules firmly. make sure power to the system is uplugged during the entire peocedure and give the system 5 minutes after putting modules back (just in case moisture from wiping remains).
2. Your PSU (main power supply) is failing. Replace PSU (cost around $50 at local IT shop).
cheers

If you unplug the power cord from the wall and the PSU, then flick the little red voltage switch on the back up and then back down again, plug it back in and it should work again

My computer won't start, it appears to have no power. For the past 2 weeks when ever I would start up it up I would have to constantly push the start button 3 to 5 times till it would power up. Now it...

Most likley you have a fried power supply. Try this first unplug the computer from the power cord for 5 minutes then plug back in and go into safe mode see how to go into safe mode below.

To start the computer in safe mode 1.
You should print these instructions before continuing. They will not be available after you shut your computer down in step 2.
2.
Click Start and then click Shut Down.
3.
In the drop-down list of the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.
4.
As your computer restarts but before Windows launches, press F8.
On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press F8 when the boot menu appears.
5.
Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and then press ENTER.
6.
If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

I have an Averatec laptop, series 2300. While I was using it, it just shut down (immediate shut down) and wouldn't boot up again. I have removed battery, Let it charge overnight, and twice it has come...

Are you just running it from the battery? It sounds like you may have a motherboard problem. I would first put in my OS boot cd and see if it boots from the CD. Let me know if you don't know how to boot from CD. If it does boot from cd then run a chkdsk /r on your hard drive.
If that doesn't fix it I would see if the power supply is not working again are you running from the battery without power supply?
Thanks,
Henry

Could be an overheating problem.

Power it off & disconnect the power. Open up the case, and use a vacuum cleaner, canned air, QTip, and be sure all dust is gone from the fans, vents, and other openings.

You may need to do this on a regular (monthly or so) basis, especially if you have pets, as I do. Also, consider getting the computer up off the floor if you can, and make sure it gets good airflow.

Something I've seen occasionally on Dell boxes is that they'll have problems booting up or shutting down if a USB device is attached to them (not the keyboard or mouse, but a flash drive, USB hub, or similar.)

If that applies to you, disconnect the devices to get it to boot. Then, add one device at a time, shutting down and starting up again. You might determine which is the offender, and see if there are new drivers available.

I had a Logitech device that cause a problem. I removed their drivers, and Windows loaded it's own, and the problem went away.

Hope that helps.

When i try to reset the box the white light blinks for about 2 to 3 minutes the an orange light comes on and stays on . it won't reset

try holding the power button in for 4 seconds this forces the powers supply to shut down then press power on
this process simulates a reset

Dell GX150 - Power light flashing orange

A blinking Yellow power light means a dead power supply. Whats with all the overly complicated answers. Every Dell I've ever worked on that had that problem was the power supply and I've fixed hundreds of them.....

Flashing Green Light next to voltage switch

For problem #1 there is a MBR (Master Boot Record) problem, meaning that Windows is unable to find Windows. This can either be a software problem or a hard disk failure. If you have your Windows XP disc boot up with it in your cd drive and when it starts press 'R' for repair as this wil repair system files and you will not lose any settings or doc's. When you are running go to your hard disk drive manufacturer and run a diagnosis and repair if neccassary. Problem #2 should sort itself out if left unplugged from the mains supply and the power supply unit for 15 mins or so. If not there is a power supply that needs replacing.
