Do you still have a warranty for that computer? You should a get free servicing or perhaps a replacement for it. Or have you tried using a different power cable?

It's a problem in your motherboard and you need it get fixed. Anyone with soldering skills can fix that. If you do, then you can do it yourself. (seriously). It probably pulled/pushed the traces off the main board and will require superglue, solder, and maybe a bit of fine wire, to fix. The biggest obstacle will be the dissassembly, and proper reassembly of the laptop case. It'll take a while, but once fixed, should return your laptop to 100% functionality

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 1505; Battery does not charge; DC jack is loose..

The loose connection for the AC adapter means the motherboard needs to be replaced or the AC adapter jack on the motherboard needs to be replaced. (With Labor, it is about the same cost to buy a new motherboard as it is to have the old one fixed)

Motherboards are available on EBay for around $100

SOURCE: Can I power my laptop through th usb port

I know you've either fixed your problem, or thrown the laptop out(still a "fix") but for posterity, and for anyone with a similar problem...

There are two answers, depending on your laptop.

First, NO, there is currently no way to charge your laptop battery by putting power into the usb port.

There ARE commercial external batteries. sadly, they will connect to your failing power-socket.(see http://www.laptop-battery.org/Power/External-Batteries/ENB003L.html)

If your laptop has a external battery charging dock, for spare batteries.... you could go that route.
you'd probably still want to follow the last suggestion.

GET IT FIXED!
Seriously... anyone with fairly good soldering skills can probably fix that powerjack. It probably pulled/pushed the traces off the main board and will require superglue, solder, and maybe a bit of fine wire, to fix. The biggest obstacle will be the dissassembly, and proper reassembly of the laptop case. It'll take a while, but once fixed, should return your laptop to 100% functionality.

I have saved 3-4 laptops with this technique. One, I even swapped the power jack to a more common size. This was to allow the use of a non-proprietary power brick(the original had fried itself).

SOURCE: Loose power connection on sony vaio PCG 7V1M

I'm assuming the laptop is out of warrantee.
It sounds like the power adapter jack is broken. To replace this you have to take the laptop apart down to the motherboard, unsolder the jack, solder on the replacement and reassemble the laptop. This is not something a novice should attempt.
Check with your laptop repair shops. The replacement/repair should be under $100.

SOURCE: the ac power plug was

1. Test power adapter for output voltage. Bend the power cable in various directions while doing this to be sure that there is no broken conductors in the cable.
2. If power adapter is Ok, connect it & see if the power LED on the laptop will glow when you jiggle the power connector in various directions. If yes, then the DC jack might be loose or damaged, & need to be either re-soldered or replaced.
3. If not, then disassemble the laptop. Remove any components that attach to the laptop's motherboard first (e.g. battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, optical drive, ... etc.)
4. Next, remove the keyboard & the LCD screen.
5. Finally, unscrew all screws that hold the upper cover & lower cover together so that you could gain access to the motherboard.
6. Inspect the solder points connecting the DC jack to the motherboard. Make sure that none of them is loose. If any, re-solder them.
7. Inspect the center pin in the DC jack. Make sure that it is not broken or loose. If it is, then you might need to replace the DC jack.
8. When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop.

I have a problem with my DC In port. I have to finagle my cord in different directions to achieve a charging state. Do you think I need a new charger or is there an easy way to fix it

Hi,

If the DC input port feels loose then thats the problem. If not then the cable might be damaged on the inside. Happens if the cable is rolled up and unrolled frequently :)

My sony vaio labtop doesnt charge any more unless i use my hand to support where the charger cable connects the labtop.

This must be a loose DC Port Issue. If the system is still under warranty, you can call Sony and they can repair it for you.

Power socket is loose

dc jack socket for Sony VAIO VGN-FW is very easy to loose, I think you can replace the cabled dc jack, no solder work, plug in and work, see this reference page: http://www.lapdiy.com/sony-vaio-vgnfw-series-power-jack-port-connector-dc-in-cable-p-2647.html
the above item is with ground cable, it is known that sony FW uses both harnesses with or without ground cable, you can cut the ground cable directly if your laptop does not use it, or order from this page for the one without ground cable: http://www.lapdiy.com/sony-vaio-07300012492a-power-jack-port-connector-dc-in-cable-p-2782.html
hope this can help you

Power socket for sony vaio is broken how do I

On a Sony, many times the power socket is a separate piece that can be replaced. Unlike many laptop motherboards, these power sockets are a separate item the plug into the motherboard. \

Bad news is you have to dissassemble the computer to get at it.

Internal fuse need replacing

Sorry, but i don't think there is fuse on motherboard.
More likely its a loose DC socket cable to motherboard or faulty AC adapter.
If Dc - ok, AC - ok, then its a faulty motherboard.
