SOURCE: Campbell Hausfeld compresser throwing breaker

There is a one way valve that only lets air from compressor to tank. If this isn't working the motor is trying to start under the pressure of the tank, and therefore tripping your breaker.

SOURCE: motor runs for 10 sec then kicks breaker off. dont

Short in the motor - It may be salvagable but not likely. Try a local electric motor repair shop but call first for labor charges. Some don't work on 'small' single phase motors. If it is not the winding that is bad expect to pay about $100 to fix it, assuming it can be fixed. If not, a new one is probably $150 or more depending on horsepower.

SOURCE: Motor hums then throws breaker

More than likley it is a starting capacitor in the back of the motor. With the breaker off remove the back of the motor and remove the clamp on the capacitor use a rag or wear gloves as the capacitor may have leaked. If it smells burnt or is leaking it is probally bad and needs to be replaced, Replace it with an exact duplacate. If this dosen't fix the problem then it is probally a winding problem and you will need to replace the motor but the capicator at twenty to fourty dollars is worth a try first.

SOURCE: motor kicks on , hums and then trips breaker

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

The motor is likely failing. It may be a small part such as the capacitor or the starting switch, but could also be more severe such as the winding itself. You will also want to examine the shaft to see if it is damaged, best, or the bearings seized.

If you are not familiar with testing these parts your best bet would be a local electric motor repair shop to see if the motor can be repaired or if it would need to be replaced. They should also be able to ensure there is no pump damage.

If this answer does not fix your problem, please comment with additional details prior to rating the answer. Positive feedback is appreciated once your problem is solved!

check for a failed start/run capacitor for the motor
if the motor spins freely then the humming will be a frequency hum because there is not enough power to start the fan running
the extra current will blow a cb

Where does the wires hook from motor to where? Automatic Doorman 455

Is the door opener motor bad? You say, "the wires"--is there a plug on the end of the wires that can be plugged into an outlet? If so, thy plugging it into an extension cord instead of the outlet in the garage ceiling and see if you still trip a breaker. If you do, it's a problem in the opener. There are things to do to locate the source of the problem. It the breaker trips instantly when you press the button then there's a dead short somewhere. Does the motor get warm or hum before the breaker trips? If so, then maybe the door mechanism is locked up and the motor cant turn. Did you check to see if your garage door is locked?

My pump kicked the breaker, shutting off power to the heater and making the pipes freeze after letting it sit for awhile and hopefully unthawing the pipes i turned the pump back on it made a humming sound...

See if you can turn the impeller by hand...if you can then the motor start capacitor has probably bit the dust..this will throw a breaker if you leave it on too long...motor capacitors are available from appliance parts stores and some electrical supply warehouses

I have a FEMA camper and my rooftop A/C makes a humming sound with no air flow. what do you think ?

Hi!!

It seems like the blower motorr is not kicking in. Turn breaker OFF, remove the grill, check that electrical connections are nice and tight, and turn breaker back ON, start unit and see if evaporator coil is gatting cold, if so, Turn Breaker off, remove blower motor capacitor and test it, if capacitor OK, blower motor needs to be replaced.

Sump pump hums and then kicks breaker. Will not pump. I cleaned everything, still have problem

Pump motor is jammed causing overload and resulting breaker trip. Try to turn the pump shaft by hand, it should be very easy to turn. If there's any resistance check for blockage.

Pump does not turn on except for a humming sound and shuts off jumping the electric breaker

This could be anything from a stuck impeller to bad windings in motor. If you open the pump at the lock ring and remove the difusser from the impeller you can see if you can spin the impeller, If it won't move is it something holding the impeller up remove it. If notit is probally a bad bearing and you should replace the motor. If the Impeller turns try turning it on and caerfully try to spin before it kicks the breaker. If it is sort of stuck and does not want to turn the motor is bad and needs to be replaced. If it spins and won't start same thing, If it spins and starts it is probally a start capicator. Shut the power off at the breaker remove the back of the motor the capacitor will be a small black or silver cylinder with 2 or 3 wires clipped to it. Remove this and take it to a motor shop and get an exact duplicate. and that should fix it. When putting back together be sure to lube all "O"rings and refill with water. Hope this helps.

Motor hums then clicks off

Has the motor seemed a little slower in starting than usual? If so then you probably have a weak or defective motor capacitor. Try switching out with a new one. They are inexpensive.Try to turn the motor shaft at rear (under end cap) while it attempts to start. If the motor kicks on then replace capacitor.
