Question about RCA 20V500T 20" TV
WHEN I WAS TURNING OFF THE TV I INADVERTANTLY PRESSED MENU AND THE CHILD SAFETY LOCK COMMAND BEFORE SHUTTING DOWN AND NOW THE FRONT BUTTONS ARE DISABLED. I DO NOT HAVE A REMOTE FOR THE TV. IS THERE ANOTHER WAY TO TURN ON MY TV. i WAS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BRONCO/RAIDERS GAME. SO PLEASE HELP ME
Without remote its not possible to disable child lock. If it possible to arrange the remote then you can do the following to override the lock.
1.Press VOL+ on the remote and CHANNEL + on the
front of the TV at the same time. Enter New Pwd.
will appear on the screen. (You must be in the Enter
password screen when attempting this).
2.Press the number buttons to enter a four-digit code.
The code will appear on the screen as you enter it.
3.Press OK to save the code.
4.Press MENU repeatedly to exit the menu or the menu
will automatically disappear within a few seconds if
no buttons are pressed on the remote control

It is not a loose solder joint. It is not a faulty capacitor. Usually, a spray cleaner or some other fluid is sprayed or spilled onto the top or front of the TV and it seeps down inside and contaminates the little pushbuttons. If the volume down pushbutton is contaminated, the set will have the exact symptoms you are seeing.I have seen this many, many times, and once I saw a pushbutton contaminated with cigarette smoke. The pushbuttons should be checked and/or replaced by a qualified tech.

Have you tried to access the menu features and tried to retune the stations on digital, or are you hooked up for analog.
If you don't know about what i speak, give me a yell. firstname.lastname@example.org I believe my remote sensor card is bad. While this might explain why you can't turn yours off, it would not explain the blank picture. If the menu does show, i would think the picture tube is O.K. if the menu does not show, there are some other things to look at.

You need the factory remote only for this model of set!
Contact the service rep for your set and order a new remote.
As for the service mode, most RCA sets require an external service interface.
In many models of sets, the results and commands are in HEX. You will need the service manuals, hardware interface, and instrumentation to do proper setups and adjustments.
As for accuracy of adjustments, from factory these sets were very accurate. If there are changes, this is due to failing parts, and not from adjustments going out. The setups are all uPC controled and are exact. The set should be serviced to make it work properly, and not adjusted to offset faults.
