Toyo Laser 73 broken thermostat wire, so it won't heat. Can it run without wire hooked up?

Broken Room Temperature Sensor, Can it heat without that?

Turn up your outside thermostat in the outside unit.
You should have about 3 degrees difference in one stage to the next. So I would change the thermosat with one that has three stages of heat.

From the two red and two black wires (and the specs in the pdf), your new thermostat sounds like it's designed to directly control the line voltage (120 or 240) to the heater. That's the usual way baseboard heaters are controlled.

Could your wires be red, black, and (old, yellowed) white, the standard colors in a 3-wire power cable? Just the red and black should be enough to control a 120-volt heater so I don't understand what the white would have been used for. If it were my heater I'd take off the cover(s) -- with the power off, of course -- and find out what those wires actually connect to.

My toyo L-30 reads the temp then Lo for instance it currently reads 70 Lo. What does this mean?


Lo is displayed when the room temperature is below 14F or the heater thinks the room is below 14F, which would be caused by a problem with the room temperature sensor or the sensor is unplugged. 70 is what you have the heater set to maintain. Check the white wire on back of the heater.

IF CAR OVER HEAT IT WONT CRANK.CHECK COOLANT FAN FUSE AND RELAY.IF ALL IS GOOD YOU HAVE FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR.IF SENSOR OKAY HOTWIRE COOLANT FAN IF RUNS FAN GOOD IF NOT REPLACE FAN MOTOR AND CHECK COOLANT FAN WIRE CONNECTOR.

Gibson Furnace, Model #7106250 can not get a flame going. The furnace runs fine but is pumping out cold air without a flame. Any ideas?


On a call for heat, the 24 volt thermostat sends a signal to the control module. The control module will indicate a call for heat with a light on the control either blinking or remain solid depending upon model. The inducer (exhaust) blower will purge all gasses from the furnace and pressurize a pressure switch. Once the pressure switch tells the module to continue, the electronic ignition will energize and send 120 volts to the igniter. The igniter will glow and you will be able to see it if viewed thru the small inspection port. Once the igniter gets hot enough, it sends a signal to the module opening up the gas valve (24 volts). Either a pilot will come on or the burner tube will ignite then spread the flame to all burners. Lastly a safety sensor will be looking for a certain temperature within a few seconds and the furnace will continue to operate and the room air blower will turn on in a minute or two.

What could go wrong? The unit will not run if there is no signal from the thermostat (bad thermostat or broken wire), the control module does not sense a signal from the thermostat (bad control), the inducer does not energize (bad motor), the pressure switch does not close (blocked vent piping, bad switch, plugged condensate hose, Dirty Air Filter), the igniter does not energize (bad control, bad igniter), the gas valve does not open or there is no gas (bad gas valve, broken wire, no gas), the pilot does not light (dirty pilot), the burner does not light (bad burner, plugged orifice, not enough combustion air), the flame does not spread to each burner (bad flame spreader, dirty flame spreader, more bad burners), the flame safety sensor does not detect flame (dirty or bad flame spreader, bad flame sensor, broken wire, bad control), or the room air blower does not energize (bad fan motor, bad control).

The fan will come on but there is no heat I checked the gas line and there is gas getting to the heater. I took the igniter out and checked if the there was igniter had on open in one of the contacts.

HEATER IS NOT HEATING. WE REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT AND THE PILOT IS ON FAN WORK. ITS JUST NOT HEATING!

Will not heat up a room no matter how high i turn the temperature. I ve tried different modes overrides etc... nothing makes the heat just turn on.


If you are referring to the thermostat, try jumping the R and W wires together. If it starts, replace the thermostat. If not, go to the furnace and jump the R and W terminals on the circuit board. You may need to tape the door safety switch closed. If it starts, you have a bad thermostat wire. If not, check out the sequence of operation as below.

Could it have to do with the temperature sensor? If it is still coiled up on the back of your heater, it may be turning the heater off. You need to uncoil the sensor wire, and place the sensor somewhere away from the heater. One sight said atleast 8" off the ground. (I have a Laser 73 and mine is about two feet to the right and about 8 foot up on my wall as I have a lot.) You can attach it to a board if you have to, or any other item. Just put it as far away from the heat of the heater as you can so it will only be sensing the room air temp. If the line needs to be longer you can cut in stereo wire (I read this online too). Then play with the heat settings to see at what temp it is most comfortable for you. Hope this solves the problem.

What Does EE2 Mean? Laser 30, 56, and 73 model Laser heaters cease operation and display
the EE2 code on the control panel (instead of the clock or temperature settings) when the primary
flame rod on the heater fails to sense a flame during the first 5 minutes of the Ignition and Pre-
Heat cycle. On the Laser 55 and 72 the heater will stop and the red Reset lamp will light rather
than the EE2 code. (Note: There may be other reasons for the reset lamp to come on but much of
this information will apply.)
What Can Cause An EE2 Error? The primary flame rod is the only sensor in the heater that
can cause the EE2 error. Thus, if it occurs, either there is (1) no flame to detect, or (2) the
sensor failed to detect the flame. The flame rod is located on the lower 1/3 of the burner. It is a
heavy wire with a ceramic insulator. A single white insulated wire connects this device to the
main circuit board.
