YEs, you need the install disc for Win7 that corresponds to the key on the outside of laptop. Then just install Win7 with that key that is on the laptop.

No windows 7 disc im afraid, I was hoping the necessary installation details would be on the hard drive? :(

  • Chris Dec 12, 2012

If it came with Win7, why did you put XP on it? And depending, there may or may not be a recovery partition on the drive.

  • Chris Dec 12, 2012

Your best and easiest resolution is to get a Win7 disc with the same version as your key on the laptop (pro, home, etc.)

  • Chris Dec 12, 2012

You could also use your recover disc, but something is telling me that you don't have that, something is alos telling me that you got this laptop used.

Yes to both, Sorry I didn't mention that.

Hi George, sorry to hear/read this about your laptop.

One, you need to make sure your laptop's configuration matches the recommended environment under which Windows 7 OS was to be installed.

Check what system requirements for Windows 7 OS is and compare with your laptop.

Second, you may have to revert back to Win Xp for your laptop to re-stabilize.

Another option is to install Windows 7 Ultimate. This should operate fine on your laptop.

Post an update or feedback please.

I want to install windows xp on dell inspiron mini 1018 but i am not able to install.some blue screen comes.please help

turn off your antivirus before you try to revert back to xp. your system antivirus might see this as an attack on your windows 7,thus it won't allow you to install a different system.

Hi, i own compaq presario CQ42 369TU laptop, how do i increase my screen resolution from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 or higher ?

For Windows XP...

1.
Open Display in Control Panel.
2.
On the Settings tab, under Screen resolution, drag the slider, and then click Apply.
3.
When prompted to apply the settings, click OK. Your screen will turn black for a moment.
4.
Once your screen resolution changes, you have 15 seconds to confirm the change. Click Yes to confirm the change; click No or do nothing to revert to your previous setting.

If you cannot set it any higher than 1024x768 and you have already installed the video drivers, that is as high as it can go for your hardware.

Hi i've just had my computer ugraded to windows 7 but i cant play my sims 2 it keeps saying that i need directx 9.0c compatiable graphics adapter for it. but it was playing on my windows xp fine untill i...

The error message is correct. Windows 7 is not backwards compatible with certain graphics adapters requiring DirectX support higher than 8.0.
You should attempt first to install the proper driver for your graphics adapter from the manufacturer, and if that does not fix the issue, you should either install a new graphics adapter, or revert back to Windows XP.

Compaq Q60-615DX has reverted to earlier Windows xp edition.

I would take it back where you bought it.
If you are having multiple problems like this, and there is nothing of value on the hard drive, i would re install windows.
The appearance looks like a graphics driver problem, or maybe you need to right click on desktop / personalize and see if you are on windows classic theme

I just changed my o.s from vista to win7 and i have hp dv6835nr but cant get any drivers online, how should i load drivers on my pc now

HP does not plan to provide Windows 7 drivers for your model. It is suggested you revert back to Vista or XP and then run the windows 7 compatibility check BEFORE trying to switch.

You will have to boot of the XP install disk and reformat a FULL NTFS format, first, that will enable you to wipe the drive and install XP. To save an email, or any file to a flash drive, simply copy/paste or drag and drop onto the drive, the drive must be Formatted first, format FAT32. OR when asked for location to save, point it to the flash drive as normally done.

There is no Windows 7 driver planned as this printer is obsolete on the cannon website.
It does not even support windows XP or Vista, only up to Windows 2000.

I have HP dv6701au laptop. previously it was loaded with Vista, but now i have installed XP. The problem is that i can't get the appropriate drivers for my laptop. i had already asked the same from HP...

Before downgrading from Windows Vista to Windows XP you should always confer with your computer's manufacturers website to look up your model and see if they support the downgrade. Often times the only way for you to downgrade is to have it done before receiving the computer, since a majority of the hardware on the laptop is made specifically for Vista and is not backwards compatible. Looking on the HP website, I see that they only offer a very limited number of Windows XP drivers for your system, which tells us that downgrading is not possible.
I would recommend that you consider not downgrading but rather upgrading to Windows 7 as it is a much more stable and functional OS than its predecessor Windows Vista. You can even run Windows 7 in Windows XP compatibility mode so you can enjoy the benefits and upgrade of Windows 7 but still have the Windows XP feel and functionality. I will be writing a How-To/Tip on Windows XP Compatibility mode today so you can be on the lookout for more information on that.
