Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

Vent motor turns on, but does not draw air in as it should...

Hello, I purchased a condo with a GE spacesaver model # JVM1650SH01 over the range already installed. the microwave is approximately 2 years old, but since the day I moved in a year ago, the vent does not draw in air as it should. I can hear the motor running fine and it is a upward outside exhausting vent. What could be the problem? I recently purchased a bosch unit for my previous condo and I recall there was a vent flap that needed to be swapped to go from a counter top to over the range...does this have something similar? thanks for the help in advance!

Ok, I just removed the microwave from the wall and saw that the block plate was on the back and the fans are blowing correctly out of the top of the unit. but the suction from the bottom of the microwave is so weak, that it doesn't even vent steam from water.

is there anything else that I could be overlooking? or are these exhaust fans just that weak? my filters look brand spanking new!

    thanks again!

GE Spacemaker XL1800 vent fan doesn't pull air from beneath

On the exhaust system (top of unit) there is a small metal 'damper' that is most likely stuck shut. If that is all clear then you have a problem in the duct work of the home.

GE Spacesaver JVM140J 001, intermittent Vent Fan on Low

see the next steps for fix it, use the common sense.God bless you
First, with microwave still installed, gain access to the control board and check for voltage from the fan relay. If you are not getting voltage from the fan relay on the control board, and your display says fan is on, then you need a new control board. If voltage is present and the wiring that you can see looks good, then you will have to take the unit down and test for voltage at the fan itself. If the voltage is present there, then test the motor itself and/or start capacitor for the motor. The fan motor assembly will slide out of the top of the unit after you take it down and unscrew 2 screws. Below, in the list of component testing, you will see how to test the motor and start

The turntable on my GE spacesaver xl 1800 stopped turning. The model number is JVM1850BH01 I would appreciate any help.

On this model, the power to the turntable motor ("drive motor") is supplied by a tap (outlet terminal) on the internal cooling fan motor.

The other side of the turntable motor's power is switched on and off by a relay on the control circuit board.

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

It is vital that the cooling fan runs, or the magnetron will be destroyed.

When I say internal cooling fan, I do not mean the hood vent exhaust fan which you can turn on and off manually.

I'm instead talking about the internal fan which comes on automatically whenever you microwave.

If the cooling fan is running, but the turntable is not, then it's probably a relay issue or connection which we can repair.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

Ge space maker Ge model jvm1650sh01.  Serial hg

It may be a defective upper or lower door switch (or either switch's mount may be bad) or a stuck relay on the control circuit board.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Our file on door switches is here.

After you or a friend look that over, if you still have a problem, we repair these control boards for $39.95 with a one-year guarantee.

Instead of having yours repaired, you can buy a new control circuit board from the Pros here, our favorite supplier.

Ge jvm1650sh01 surface light doesnt work/ vent

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, and/or inside light operation, too.

Details of our service are at our Web site, along with a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me directly with your brand, full model number and symptoms.

JVM1790 Microwave GE-Draws air from bottom and top vents

1. You have to have exhaust pipe to connect m/w vent and this pipe has to be free from obstruction.
2. If it already connected and good, but air come from vent bar over door, then blow motor on top of the m/w was installed in wrong position ( motor has 2 -3 position depends which way air coming out up, back or front).
3. In this case you have to remove m/w from installation and change motor position.
