You should be able to go into safe mode and do a system restore to just before you had the problem. 1. Turn on your computer and start hitting f8 several times. It should take you to a screen before windows would even start. It will ask you what you want to do. 2. Go into safe mode. 3. Go to control panel, then to system restore, and try restoring it back to a time before the problem started. That will completely reset the computer back to the time you choose. And "should" rectify the problem.

You're on the right track,

http://www.fixya.com/support/t16517720-reset_bios_cause_when_enter_setup_wont

Just need to go into Boot menu, (Boot Options), and set the first boot device to CDROM.

CDROM has to be at the Top of the list, or across from -
1st boot device

Remember to Save Changes

(The O/S disk you have has the basic Windows files on it.
The basic Windows files need to be repaired.

When asked choose Repair. Non-Destructive Installation)

My computer wont boot correctly

won't boot at all?
it's probably the BIOS settings
go to the BIOS settings by pressing F8 or DEL
go to advanced settings
look for "boot device priority" or something like that
set the first priority device as your harddisk
save & exit,restart,happy computing

the "boot device priority" maybe not placed on advanced setting, each BIOS has different interfaces, just look for something like that,it's easy

Startup wont boot

Sounds like the best solution for you is to take it to a Repair Shop and have them reinstall Windows for you. If you had a legitimate copy of the windows operating system on it and there is a Certificate Of Authentication (COA) key sticker on the bottom of the laptop or inside the battery case, a honest repair shop will reinstall windows for $60 or less.

I have a desktop Gateway model: 650 Performance w/windows 98SE. My computer will begin to boot, Windows starts up and after about 10 seconds complety shuts down. I can access safe mode and computer stays...

you have a virus or you accidentally deleatd some start up files,if you instilled any new hardware then remove it and try starting up again. if not, try a system restore but you may need to either upgrade or reinstall windows.

as for the CD or A drive you can enable them to boot before the hard drive from the by pressing eigher F2 , F8, or F10 keys depends on you model. while in the system menu change the boot order and save your settings.

Lost everything on my laptop as soon as i open it

I dont think you lost everything. Do you see any green power lights and do you hear the normal hard drive and fan sounds when booting up ? If you do and still wont boot up to Windows then reboot and keep tapping on F8 to safe mode and select "last known good configuration". You can also perform system restore.

If you dont hear anything at all, no power and you dont see any green power lights then you may have to plug into another known good power outlet. check that your power connections (including the power adaptor) are secured and if on a strip power off and on. If that doesnt work, try another power adaptor. If those doesnt work
remove the laptop battery and just plug in the adapter.

If youre concern about your personal files you can always take out the hard drive, piggyback it to another hard drive on a known good PC and retrieve the files.

Laptop Wont Boot Up

In that situation, try to boot it in SAFE MODE. You get into this by pressing F8 during boot up. The menu will come up and you choose the mode you want. While in safe mode you will have to try and use system restore to go back to when the computer was working. It's like PC time travel.

Toshiba satellite with windows xp will only show black sreen and wont let windows xp repair

Your description of the symptom shows that your operating system installation has been corrupted. Fastest and easiest way to resolve the Issue using the "Recovery and application disk" (it comes with laptop) to perform full system recovery. I would like to remind you full system recovery will erase everything saved on Hard drive. You can check possible option on http://support.toshiba.com

If you dont have recovery and application disk you get one. You can call Toshiba @ 1-800-457-7777

Please post if you need further assitance

Good Luck
