SOURCE: vertical lines o my desktop
Sounds like the LCD display on the laptop is no good. If you hook up an external monitor, do the lines appear there? If they do, then the problem is with the laptop's video card. If the lines do not appear on the external monitor, then the problem is with the laptop's LCD display and it will need to be replaced.

It would cost about $100-200 for parts.
That doesn't include the repair time. For me it would take about 10-15 minutes.
For a novice about 1-2 hours.
That's the jest of it.
New laptops $200-400 for decent rigs.

this will more than likely be a video card issue. The bad news, on laptops, everything is integrated into the motherboard and and you will have to replace. Getting to the motherboard can be a pain.

Try reseating the LCD cable to the video card. If no change, then you will most likely need a replacement LCD (Roughly $150 on EBay)

lines normally mean it is a monitor problem and chances are the cost of fixing this is almost as costly as a new laptop
