Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Intermittent no spin

Machine goes through all cycles except intermittent no spin. Balance load feature tries six or seven times but then quits. Load is not out of balance and by starting cycle over or unplugging machine "Sometimes" will spin. No change in load, balanced load, but the machine senses that it is out of balance. Door switch was changed but that did nothing to fix problem. During fault code test there is no faults listed.

The thing is still under warranty but the Tech's keep looking for an error code that does not come up so they say No Fault. The machine performed perfectly for the first 8 months of its life, now this is becoming about a twice in every 5 loads and I am getting unhappy with the No Fault found excuse.

I am leaning toward the door lock. Check to be sure that all the screws are tight and when the door is closed and it won't spin, instead of opening it, push in on the door to see if it will start. Keep me posted.

  • Steve Battaglia Dec 10, 2012

Have pushed on the old door lock and the new with absolutely NO EFFECT. Was told to secure the door by pushing on it and have done that as well. No effect and no change with the old or new switch. Since it is intermittent it would seem pushing on the door switch would help, it doesn't. I am not sure what a Motor Control effect would be and I am wondering what the fault code if any for a motor control that has an issue. Also no door lock fault code since changing the switch but no change either.

OK, if it is under warranty I would call Whirlpool and raise 9 kinds of hell. They will get it straight for you. Anything you might try will void the warranty.

  • Steve Battaglia Dec 10, 2012

Hope I was clear that the Door Lock Switch was changed by the Tech as the code for it was displayed. There is a smaller push button switch above it and I am not sure what it is for but that was not changed. It is a small, 3/16" round button which is depressed by the door when it is closed. The one they changed is the door lock switch which is below it with the rectangular hole where the lock tang on the door fits in.

I am planning on going after Whirlpool with my issue since it remains under warranty but because I seem to be getting a lot of deer in the headlight looks from the Techs I want to be at least armed with some information other than the No Fault Codes Shown. My frustration is that it takes a week to get a Tech out here to tell me the same things I already know. I absolutely will not touch the thing since it is a warranty issue and of course each time a tech shows up I am sure the clock is running. It takes about one day for the No Spin to start up again, about 2 of every five loads after that and it appears to be on the increase.

It sounds like a wiring issue then. Well, keep me posted!

SOURCE: off balance during spin cycle

I have a Performa Model PAV3200AWW that would go unbalanced every time it would go into a spin cycle. I found the problem to be a worn out snubber. This is a plastic ring that is at the pivot point for the whole tub. It separates the metal to metal contact at the bottom of the washer pivot point. The part is less than ten dollars, but it is a quit a job to replace. I had to remove the whole tub to replace mine, but it did solve the problem. If you see a lot of plastic shavings around the pivot point, then this could be your problem.

SOURCE: Does not Spin out the water at the end of a load

If it spins the balance is okay. Check out your filter now. And then the pump (after the spigot prob below) Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it. Snaking out your standpipe would be good too.

SOURCE: spin cycle is off balance washing machine is

i dont believe it is the agitator per say. Assuming this problem has just started and doesnt have transportation bolts still attatched. Two conditions cause the imballance. 1)(if unit is a top loader) Check if all 4 shock absorber springs are well lubricated and not sticking. 2)A more involved problem which often happens, Underneath the washer, is the drive motor. on the motor, is a round pulley. this pulley needs to come off and strip further until you see a long spring. If it is not broken, clean it up using a solvent and a rag. reassemble and test. (if spring is defective, it will slip instead of grip on a spin cycle.

SOURCE: maytag washing machine gets out of balance

Maytag uses an auto balancing mechanism, based on the rear legs. These legs should move freely. Lay the machine on its side, and try to move the rear legs. If they won't move and appear rusty, then spray penetrating oil on both legs and move them until they move freely.

What will cause my Whirlpool washing machine to set on low speed spin cycle?

The machine uses automatic load sensors to balance the load and when you put something in the machine that is big, like a comforter, it knows that it cannot balance that item. So with a front loader it wont spin at high speed because it would be off balance and either damage the machine or the machine would "walk" because of the off balance motion.

The beep that signals load is done sounds prematurely for about a minute ,the dryer continues until load is dry then shuts off

On this dryer each of the seven automatic cycles listed on your machine perform different functions based on fabrics, load size or variables. In essence the first four settings (Heavy Duty to Delicate) relate to your desired drying temperatures of high, medium, low or extra-low respectively. The moisture level of the load is determined by the dryer's sensor system and the machine will set the drying time to an optimal level.

Whirlpool added a WRINKLE FREE feature or what one might describe as an extended intermittent tumbling time. This added cycle helps reduce wrinkling when you may not be able to unload the dryer immediately after the end of the cycle when the buzzer goes off. Starting this setting is a simple one button operation at the control panel. TheWrinkle Shield™ Plus Feature is preset to on during the permanent press cycle.

Are the locking nuts tight on all 4 legs? If not, tighten all locking nuts after leveling machine. Also, place a glass of water about 18" in front of machine while spinning and see if water moves. If it does, you may have flooring issues.

Very noisy on spin cycle, not out of balance

Hi, check leveling of machine, machine should be proper leveled on all side, use spirit level to adjust legs, there should be no rocking motion, in any direction after leveling, put hands on top of machine and try to rock it sids to side, there should be no movements, also check for overloading, be careful when washing things like bath towels, etc, they absorb lots of water, eg. one regular bath towel are equivalent, to six pants, six tops. or possible springs or bushings broken, you need open machine and check.

My PAVT920AWW won't spin hard enough to get all the water out

I have had teh same problem. I calledin the Maytag service and they did replace something out of goodwill but the technician told me that the load balance sensor is sensitive. If your load is unbalanced then the machine will spin slowly so it does not walk across the floor. With larger loads the wieght will make the machine bang against the sides and walk.

The solution is quite simple. Make sure the load is balanced. The agitator has a way of unbalancing a load from time to time so you need to do this manually. It is a very rare occurance and it is best to make sure your load goes into the machine balanced first.

Clothes too wet

Watch the washing machine go through its complete spin cycle.(It could have a filter in the pump, check for water flow coming out of the drain. Make sure the washing machine is fully leveled with a square. make sure you put fairly big loads to keep it balanced. If the washing comes out wet on the final spin ,add some more garments and then put it on spin again as the w/m might be going out of balance. Under the work bench on top some times there is a spring to adjust the tension. about every five or six years the motor brushes need changing.
