Question about Washing Machines
Machine goes through all cycles except intermittent no spin. Balance load feature tries six or seven times but then quits. Load is not out of balance and by starting cycle over or unplugging machine "Sometimes" will spin. No change in load, balanced load, but the machine senses that it is out of balance. Door switch was changed but that did nothing to fix problem. During fault code test there is no faults listed.

SOURCE: off balance during spin cycle
I have a Performa Model PAV3200AWW that would go unbalanced every time it would go into a spin cycle. I found the problem to be a worn out snubber. This is a plastic ring that is at the pivot point for the whole tub. It separates the metal to metal contact at the bottom of the washer pivot point. The part is less than ten dollars, but it is a quit a job to replace. I had to remove the whole tub to replace mine, but it did solve the problem. If you see a lot of plastic shavings around the pivot point, then this could be your problem.

If it spins the balance is okay. Check out your filter now. And then the pump (after the spigot prob below)
Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it. Snaking out your standpipe would be good too.
Rate me pl.....if helped.

old duets have nut on rear pulley that becomes loose. remove rear panel and tighten nut. check while spinning by hand if pop is felt. if it rotates smoothly then you may need new shocks on tub

i dont believe it is the agitator per say. Assuming this problem has just started and doesnt have transportation bolts still attatched. Two conditions cause the imballance. 1)(if unit is a top loader) Check if all 4 shock absorber springs are well lubricated and not sticking. 2)A more involved problem which often happens, Underneath the washer, is the drive motor. on the motor, is a round pulley. this pulley needs to come off and strip further until you see a long spring. If it is not broken, clean it up using a solvent and a rag. reassemble and test. (if spring is defective, it will slip instead of grip on a spin cycle.

Maytag uses an auto balancing mechanism, based on the rear legs. These legs should move freely. Lay the machine on its side, and try to move the rear legs. If they won't move and appear rusty, then spray penetrating oil on both legs and move them until they move freely.
