How do I fix my snowblower when the wheels won,t move ahead or back

Sounds like gear on axle shaft broke shear bolt or key. Take bottom plate off base of snowblower. It is ok to tip snowblown up on front end so wheels are in air. After plate is off turn wheels and see if drive gear is moving with axle. If not key way or bolt has broken off, replace and will be back in motion.

I have a 2 yr old 8HP Craftsman snowblower. My small engine buddy picked it up in Nov to give it a tune up check the belts etc..I had been doing yearly maint on it but wanted to see how he busted it apart...

Are you trying to move the gear selector with the engine off? This is a friction wheel/disk transmission and the friction wheel usually will not move on the drive disk without the engine running.
If you have the bottom cover off, lift up on the drive wheel. (The rubber wheel. Lift it off the drive plate) It has tension on the plate using a spring. The gear shift lever should move then.
If it won't move check the sliding mechanism for the friction wheel and make sure it has a little grease on the shaft it slides on. Also check the cable and the pulleys the cable runs in. Sometimes the engagement cable (forward drive lever on the handle) falls off the pulleys. Sometimes these little pulleys will break.
These Craftsman snowblower transmissions are all basically the same. Here is a manual that shows the drive system. Look at page 20, figure 22.
Let me know if you have any other questions or you need more clarification.
