Toshiba DVR-670 VHS VCR plays then stops

Something is causing the electronics to think that the mechanism is faulty. It will shut down the system if it thinks that, to prevent tape damage. You need to check for any kind of damage to the mechanism. I know you say you have looked, but check again. If you don't find anything. I would replace the VCR mode switch. You might get away with a spray of Servisol Video 40 on it, but if you can replace it. You will need the service manual for that. As they are tricky to set up.

Why does my vcr plays for 4 seconds then stops please help

This probably indicates some kind of mechanism damage. Also the Mode Switch could be faulty or out place, again that can be caused by damage to the mechanical parts. The mode switch tells the electronics what position or playing mode the mechanism is in. Any incorrect movement results in stopping the actions and could result in system shutdown to prevent even more damage.

TWO VCRs stopped working.

Yes, try to look inside (not in play) when you hit fast forward or rewind--are the reels turning too slow or jerking etc?

It indicates a problem with the transport part of the unit---bad drive idler or even a slipping or bad belt or belts if used.

I HAVE A TOSHIBA VCR/DVD COMBINATION MACINE. THERE IS NO TRACKING BUTTON. iS THERE A WAY TO AUTOMATICALLY ADJUST THE TRACKING??

Usually VCRs do not offer specifically labelled tracking buttons as such, however they may incorporate tracking into their channel UP/DOWN buttons, both on the front of the main unit and/or remote. Some brands also offer V-LOCK (vertical lock or still image adjustment) (in pause mode during playback) to stabilise the image, reducing vertical jitter, which again can be adjusted as required using the same buttons as used for tracking. In most cases, pressing both CH UP and CH DOWN together while the tape is playing should centre track (revert back to auto tracking) the unit.

I am sure if your VCR has channel buttons on it, try pressing either one while a tape is playing. See if it affects the tracking at all. If it does, press both buttons together for 5 seconds or so, then release - auto/centre tracking takes over.

It costs nothing to try this, and it won't hurt your machine or your tapes.

1) I turn on the power and place a prerecorded

If it is not a bad soldering joint somewhere, it could be the mode switch. They can sometimes be cleaned with Servisol Video 40, but you might have to replace it.

VCR stops playing

A couple of possibilities: the bad electronics unit might have power supply problems, optical sensor problems, or other problems with the electronics. If you have some tech savvy and a voltmeter, you could check the power supply voltages. This circuit is likely in the close vicinity of the fuse. On the output side you should see a +5 volt, +12 to 15 volt, and perhaps a -35 volt (approx). The +5 supplies the logic circuit, +12 the motors. If these voltages are missing, or way out of tolerance, you will have a dead unit. A frequent cause of problems in the supply is bad electrolytic capacitors, especially in the older units (Panasonic manufactured rigs, late '80s/early '90s). Possible values on these capacitors: 2200MFD/10V 1000MFD/16V and several others. Replacements can be supplied by MCM electronics, Mouser electronics. I use the Panansonic FC series from Digi-Key Electronics. Sensor problems: Many VCRs have the sensor opticals mounted on the main circuit board, and locate themselves in particular spots in the mechanical section. One or more sensors detect tape loaded, one each for the supply & takeup spindles. If any of these sensors (especially the supply/takeup sensors) are non-working, the logic circuit will detect an error condition, and shut down the unit or at least put it into a stop mode.

Tapes not in 24p play for 2 seconds than stop, WHY?

The BR-DV3000 DV deck has LP inhibit function which is set in the operations menu. JVC does not recommend the use of LP mode and therefore locks this mode out by default. You can change this setting to allow operation in LP mode if you like but I don't recommend it. Using LP mode on DV tape causes the error rate to escalate due to the narrower track width produced by the slow moving tape. Good Luck, this is a nice machine! The key is to make sure you REMOVE all DVDs and VCRs from the player, then hold the stop button on the unit down for 5 seconds.
