Broke a throttle cable - can't see how to re-attach the new cable to the twist grip.

You have not listed your model.
Generally, remove two or three screws holding the right hand control module together. Remove old cable, install new cable in housing, and cable end in throttle tube. Reassemble.

How to install a throttle cable model 3120xp

Instructions

1 Push the end of the new throttle cable onto the linkage on the carburetor, this is held in place with a clip, but on some other vehicles, the end of the throttle cable is capped and simply slides through a slot on the linkage.

2 Place the throttle cable clip over the linkage. You may need to pry the end up with a flat-head screwdriver to get it in place.

3 Secure the throttle cable in the throttle cable bracket located on the intake manifold. This, too, should clip into place.

4 Route the cable into the cab, being sure to keep it kink-free.

5 Loop the end onto the end of the accelerator pedal inside of the linkage hole. In other vehicles, there may be a clip on the accelerator pedal that holds the throttle cable in place, which is also easy to do with your bare hands.

Replace throttle cable

There are two cables leading to the throttle. Both have two pieces.
Cable 1 goes from the throttle about 12" long and connects to an adjustment piece joining it to cable2 which goes to the throttle body.
Cable 3 also goes from the throttle and is about 12" long and connects to and adjustment piece joining it to cable 4 which goes to the spring on the throttle body.
To change any of them you must loosen the adjustment piece until the ends can be removed from it.
Then to change cables 1 and 3 you have to remove the throttle cover on the grip. you will be able to see how they are removed. Then reverse these steps to install the new cable.
To change cables 2 and 4 in no more difficult but more time consuming as you will have to route these longer cables from the adjuster to where they connect to the throttle body.
When cables have been install and all parts reassembled you can carefully adjust the tension on the cables until the throttle responds the way you like it.
Hope this helps

    • The idle air control (IAC) valve and throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connectors. Figure of cruise control and throttle control cables removed from throttle lever. aurora_g2.gif

    • The cruise control cable and throttle control cable from the throttle body lever.
    • The fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose, positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose and the throttle body vacuum port hose.
    • The throttle body coolant hoses.
    • The throttle control cable bracket, leaving the throttle and cruise cables connected.
    • The upper nut holding the throttle body to the intake manifold.

Stilh leaf blower and it surges

How old is it?

Your brief description of the problem points toward air in the fuel lines.

Remove the engine cover, and try to see how flexible the fuel lines are. If they are hard and brittle, it's time to change them.

If you need further assistance let me know.

I have a 2005 Vrod. I'm replacing the throttle cable. I've routed it exactly as the previous cable, but it's centimetres from the pullywheel. When I thread the cable through the frame, there is a lodgement...

Put both cables side by side. Are they the same length? Probably not. Go back to the dealer with both cables and ask what's going on with them. It could be that the prior owner installed a non-stock throttle then had the bike shop make a cable to fit, or the longer cable came with the throttle kit.

Your options are to get a new cable made to match the old cable or get a stock Harley throttle. If the throttle already IS a stock Harley part, then I would think the listing of what models the part would fit is incorrect. Have the guy at the parts counter try to match up cables.

Please rate this solution. Thanks!
