Re: DVD burner problem
Hi DARBAIL! I have the same unit like you. I Have experienced that the cd/ dvd burner doesn't work because cables might have loosen up. Check the IDE cable if it was connected properly. Try to Check also the burner eg. Nero maybe it was not installed properly. Check the installation settings If it was installed completely. Try to check also the system of your computers may be the Direct X component was not installed.
If you have tune up utilities, Try to Check it properly using the device manager if it was installed in your system.
Lastly, after you have tried all of this but nothing is happening. Your unit CD/ DVD has faulted. Better buy a new one.

1st step; Acquire/buy a cd/dvd rom drive cleaning tool kit from your local pc store.
2nd step; Install a dvd coder/decoder software, try Power DVD player software it has a trial version
3rd step; After installing the DVD coder/decoder from Power DVD player try playing a dvd movie rom disc it should work/play... hope these tips help ;-)
as with all writers eventually they fault at the lens and it gets out of line and cannot read discs, you can try the usual thing of checking LG for any firmware updates, but first:-
Go to my computer>right click>hardware tab>device manager, then down list to cd/dvd drives and click '+' sign and highlight your writer, right click on it and select uninstall.
Restart PC and it will be automatically re installed, try again and if no change you will need to replace the drive as they are cheaper nowadays.
You can try to clean the lens with some lens cleaners that are available almost anywhere. But it's most likely that the DVD laser is no longer working. (there are different lasers for DVD and CD just to let you know...)
With DVD combo drives going down so fast in price, it might be better to just upgrade to a DVD combo lightscribe burner. (I paid $40 for one last week)
